Key Responsibilities:

• Assists in the pre-planning of drilling operations.

• Responsible for ensuring that the contract requirements, contract specifications and are understood and the operation is organised accordingly.

• Takes responsibility for operational management of the assigned drilling/work-over rig and associated equipment on contracts in the field.

• Co-ordinates operations with the customer’s representative and agrees any special safety requirements, emergency procedures, drills, reporting and meetings programme and any other special requirements

• Oversees the crew management for the shift, instruction of field personnel assigned to the rig, for their welfare and routine reporting of personnel performance.

• Co-ordinates the implementation of the company policies at the work site and assists in internal and external audits as required also makes recommendations for amendments to procedures.

• Responsible for ensuring well control equipment is in operational condition and for the routine testing and recording of functional and pressure tests.

• Accountable for ensuring that rig instrumentation and equipment and any pressure testing instrumentation is in working order and calibrated in accordance with company policy.

• Supports the Toolpusher with the plans of work programme assigns tasks to the crew ensuring that tasks and activities are planned ahead such as to eliminate downtime, waiting time, optimises operational efficiency.

• Undertakes responsibility for the co-ordination of routine rig maintenance, repairs and lubrication, condition monitoring and for special maintenance and repairs in association with the rig crew and mechanic team.

• Supports pre-operational meetings, crew safety meetings and safety audits are undertaken in accordance with the company policy and that all records are complete and submitted to Rig Superintendent.

• Additional requirements may be required dependent on Clients instruction or Operational requirements, for example: Complying with the Bridging Document, adhering to DROPS Management.

Main Duties:

• Assist in site visits and equipment selection or recommendation.

• Supports and line manages the crew during shifts.

• Assists with the maintaining of accurate records of equipment and consumables stored on the rig site as part of the company policies and to assist in stock control.

• Responsible for the housekeeping of the site and the overall appearance of the rig and equipment

• Ensure that daily, weekly and monthly checks are carried out correctly and recorded. Ie: rig inspections of mast/derrick, DROPS tools and inspections etc.

• Record daily activities in IADC tour book

Health, Safety & Environmental:

• Leads by example, promotes and participates in STAR card and all safety programmes.

• Ensures all service company representatives working on the site understand their obligations with regard to safety and ascertain any special safety requirements including the issuing of COSHH assessments for hazardous materials.

• Supports all aspects of safety management including warning and forfeit recommendations under the Company internal H&S policy.

• Responsible for environmental protection of the site and surroundings and reporting such to both the Rig Manager and Client as appropriate.

• Responsible for implementation of the COSHH regulations and any assessments ensuring that the rig crew are aware of the information available and the potential hazards together with the availability of any special equipment that can be issued for their added protection

Relationship Management:

• Ensure effective communication is undertaken with internal staff and the client.

• When required assists and supervises any service companies or sub-contractors and any other visit to site for work purposes.  

Financial & Budgetary:

• Responsible for crew productivity and cost control of all activities on site including the elimination of waste. Participates in initiatives to continuously improve the field performance

Training and Development:

• Organizes and supervises on the job training sessions and instruction period for the rig crew members and other site staff employed by the Company

General:

• Must be fluent in English, Reading, Writing

• Microsoft office suite user

• Promotes teamwork on the Rig.

• Line manage crew within the company procedures

Job Requirements

Qualifications and experience required for this role:

• IWCF or IADC qualified.

• Minimum of current 10 years drilling experience

• Management of confined space entry

• First Aid Trained

• Use of BA sets

• H2s awareness

• Fire fighting course attendance beneficial.

• Have experience of working under pressure.

• Previous experience of working in an environment of this nature.
