KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation (KNCV) is one of the leading international non-profit organizations dedicated to fighting tuberculosis (TB) worldwide. We are an international center of expertise for TB control that stimulates effective, efficient and sustainable tuberculosis control strategies in a national and international context. We are an organization of passionate TB professionals, including medical doctors, researchers, training experts, nurses and epidemiologists.

 Over the past century we have built a wealth of knowledge and expertise, initially by successfully driving back TB in the Netherlands, and subsequently by partnering in the fight against TB in over 40 countries worldwide.

We operate from a central office in The Hague in the Netherlands and additional country offices worldwide). KNCV raises funds from individual, institutional and corporate donors.

Background

KNCV has been supporting the national TB program in Ethiopia in different TB program related areas including strengthening of childhood TB management in the country. As part of this effort, KNCV supported the implementation of the Painless Optimized Diagnostics for TB in Ethiopian Children (PODTEC) between 2019 and 2021 with emphasis on improving access to non-invasive diagnostic methods. Building on this effort, KNCV will support scale up of the services to south Omo (SNNPR), Borena Zone (Oromia regional states and North Wollo Zone (Amhara regional states)).

Purpose of the position and organizational position

KNCV is looking for a project coordinator who will lead and provide oversight on the above project. As a Project Coordinator, you are responsible for day-to-day coordination and management of the project. The project coordinator will report directly to the Country Representative and will work in close coordination with the KNCV central office team lead and grant manager.

 Profile

The Project coordinator will:

Technical assistance

  •  Coordinate KNCV’s implementation of the project as project lead; 

  • Prepare the project proposal and MoU to be signed by MOH/PCD with further communication with RHBs;

  • Coordinate proposal development, submission to IRB and follow up for the OR activity of the project;

  • Build the capacity of public TB officers within the NTP, Regional Health Bureau in relation to project implementation;

  • Train and mentor health personnel in the project sites on enrollment, techniques of sample collection, and data collection for the studies;

  • Provide technical support to the health facilities during supportive supervision and review meetings;

  • Prepare project progress reports for regular meetings and donor reports and report to KNCV country office and HQ on a pre-defined basis;

  • Conduct implementation studies and write manuscripts/conference abstracts.

 People, project and quality management

  •  Oversee the day-to-day implementation of the project, including activities undertaken by the staff involved in the projects and project financial management;

  • Maintain close communication related to the project implementation with National TB Program,  Regional Health Bureaus, Zonal Health Departments and Health Facilities where the project is implemented; 

  • Develop annual work plan and coordinate implementation, in coordination with NTP, the Regional team and other relevant partners and stakeholders, of the outlined project activities;

  • Supervise  lab advisor , zonal coordinators, other project staff at central level  and monitor their day-to-day progress implementation of the project Report project performance, financial utilization to responsible bodies accordingly.

Knowledge management

  •  Identify knowledge gaps at office level and health facility level regarding the project and its essence - and initiate and guide further capacity building;

  • Ensure that up to date knowledge on TB control areas and new technologies especially in area of non-invasive sample collection for TB testing;

  • Actively share knowledge and skills with the national, regional reference laboratories, GeneXpert laboratories and TB control program.

Job Requirements

Who are we looking for?

  •  BSc in Health Sciences or MD plus  Masters’ Degree in Public Health or Master degree  in public health, medical Laboratory Sciences or equivalent postgraduate qualification;

  • Minimum 7 years, post qualification experience including working in TB control at national or sub-national level;

  • Experience in childhood TB program management and implementation;

  • Sound knowledge of basic principles of childhood TB and the challenges associated with diagnosing childhood TB;

  • Solid knowledge and experience of operational research related to TB with particular focus on childhood TB;

  • Candidates with experience in working with the National TB Program and building the capacity of health care workers in TB/HIV, childhood TB  and/or TB diagnostics will be preferred.

Behavioral competencies and skills

  • Good interpersonal skills with experience in networking with partners at all levels (ministry, donors, private sector, NGOs and local community based organizations);

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and one other relevant language;

  • Result oriented with ability to work as per tight timelines;

  • Country national preferable, conversant in the local language;

  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently;

  • Ability to cope with a demanding work environment and to organize and prioritize workload;

  • Ability to work in a national and international team.
