About the Ethiopian Red Cross Society

The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) was established in 1935 and is one of the oldest and largest humanitarian organizations in Ethiopia. ERCS provides services to communities affected by natural and manmade disasters through the provision of emergency responses, ambulance and first aid, family reunification, essential drugs, water and sanitation, and other humanitarian services. ERCS also runs disaster risk reduction programs with the aim of creating resilience households and communities. Currently the ERCS has a structure consisting of 12 Regional Offices, 34 Zonal Branches and 131  District/Woreda Branches, 599 Woreda Red Cross Committee  and 5871 Kebele Red Cross  committees.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities 

• Participates in establishing policies and procedures governing the evaluation, selection, implementation and usage of new information technologies and information system components;

• Participates and facilitates installation of ICT infrastructure that facilitates collection, processing, storage, accessibility of operational, financial, human and material data at both the National Secretariat and branches;

• Continuously monitors and evaluates the existing ICT infrastructure of the Society to identify latest requirements for system installation and enhancement in consultation and collaboration with the users; 

• Performs computer networking according to software system design and office layouts;

• Provides advice on the procurement and maintenance of networking items;

• Familiarizes and trains users on new information technology services such as how to share resources and use shared local area network resources;

• Ensures that the Society’s ICT facilities such as servers, computers, printers, network devices and other hardware peripherals and software are properly functioning;

• Provide appropriate technical support to EOC to ensure its proper function;

• Provides technical support to the Society’s regional, zonal and woreda branches on ICT support need identification, ICT infrastructure installation, network administration and application;

• Renders appropriate network related training to end users based on application skill gap assessment results;

• Monitors and maintains the internet connectivity of the Society;

• Promptly takes troubleshooting actions on system failures; 

• Prepares annual and operational preventive maintenance or servicing plan of the Society’s electronic equipment and executes accordingly;

• Participates and assists in installing and enhancing ICT infrastructure of the Society and team works of the work unit;

• Provides technical support to end users on application of computers and other related ICT items of the Society on the job in offices, conference halls and public events of the Society;

• Identifies or determines supply requirements for his/her job of computer and other related electronic maintenance and repairs, develops technical specifications, requests and follows up and checks incoming procured equipment and parts according to technical specifications;

• Assembles, fits and adjusts servers, computers, radios, printers, faxes, telephones, televisions and other related electronic and electrical equipment of the Society;

• Connects electronic equipment units to power source and tests devices; checks components, electrical connections and quality of components;

• Carries out regular inspections and servicing on computers and other related electronic and electrical equipment of the Society;

• Inspects faults or diagnoses malfunctions with the aid of testing instruments; promptly takes troubleshooting actions on failing or malfunctioning computers and other pieces of electronic equipment; 

• Dismantles, if required, and overhauls electronic equipment; 

• Follows up the progress and status of outsourced electronic maintenance and repair activities; verifies the effectiveness of outsourced maintenance and repair work upon  delivery;

• Renders appropriate training to end users on computer and other electronic equipment application and fundamentals of maintenance and repair based on application skill gap assessment results;

• Installs radio equipment’s on field vehicles and project sites and dismantles as required;

• Runs the radio communication of the Society and receives and passes messages to user work units from branches and/or project sites;

• Registers and files radio messages received and passed, detailing the date, name of the receiver/passer and type of message for further reference;

• Records maintenance and repair information and reports accordingly;

• Performs other related duties and responsibilities of the job as assigned by the Society’s Information & Communication Technology Service Director.

Educational Requirement & Work Experience

• Second / first degree in Computer Engineering / Software Engineering/ Management Information System/ Computer Science/ Information Technology/ Information Science 

• 4/6 year work experience
