Job Description

Splash is an international development organization founded in 2007 and headquartered in Seattle, Washington, USA. In 15 years, we have reached over 800,000 children in cities around the world. In 2019, we embarked on an exciting, five-year initiative, Project WISE (WASH in Schools for Everyone), focused on reaching over 800,000 children in three major growth cities - Addis Ababa and Bahir Dar, Ethiopia and Kolkata, India - with improved water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) infrastructure, WASH behavior change programs, and strengthened school-based menstrual health programs. Looking ahead, we aim to expand our impact to new cities across five countries in Asia and Africa.

The Job

Splash gives opportunities for fresh graduate students from colleges and universities in Ethiopia to enable fresh graduates to be exposed to an office environment and get practical on-the-job training in the areas in which they have graduated.

Under the supervision of the Finance Coordinator, the Finance Intern performs Finance/Accounting functions to support program activities by implementing financial practices and procedures implemented in the office.

This is an internship position based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare cash and cheque payment vouchers based on approved documents and make the payments timely.

  • Perform a proper explanatory filing system for petty cash, Journal vouchers, Check transaction Vouchers of the organization

  • Assist in annual Audit and provide necessary information and documents for the External Audit.

  • Records all payments and balances daily with cash on hand.

  • Manage petty cash the flow from establishment, disbursement, and replenishment phases

  • Follow up and manage timely settlement and flow of activity in advance

  • Collect bank statements, bank credit & debit advice, checkbooks, and related documents and notifications originating from banks, and deliver correspondences to banks

  • Keep all cash and financially sensitive documents i.e. cash receipt vouchers and others in safe custody.

  • Compiles a weekly cash expenditure tracker, which is updated daily.

  • Follow up and ensure that payments are prepared and settled timely with regard to periodic and monthly obligations such as payroll income tax remittances, Private Pension Scheme fund contributions, and withholdings

  • Conduct Petty cash count at the end of every month and keep records accordingly.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, Accounting, Finance

  • Good level of verbal and written fluency in English and Amharic
