Job Description

CARE started working in Ethiopia in 1984 in response to severe drought and famine that devastated the population and claim the lives of nearly one million people. Since then, the organization’s activities have expanded to address the root causes of poverty vulnerability.

In 2008, CARE Ethiopia’s office moved from a project-based approach to a more focused and strategic program-based approach the eight years since that transition, CARE Ethiopia has implemented a series of programs with successful outcomes, while simultaneously impacting the policies and practices of government, serving as a thought leader amongst NGOs, and bringing transformative change to rural communities. These broader and deeper impacts go beyond the direct impacts of its program result of CARE Ethiopia’s overall country strategy, which enables CARE to design for scale.

CARE Ethiopia works in various sectors but has particularly targeted the following: Food Security and Resilience; WASH+; Nutr Dignified Work; Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights and Humanitarian Response as cross-cutting (focusing on the above sectors).

The purpose of the Intern - Internal Audit Compliance position is to assist and provide overall support of CARE Ethiopia’s internal audit functions specifically focusing on compliance, internal audit, external audits documentation, and other relevant matters. 

With the close support and supervision of the Audit Specialists and Audit Manager, the below activities will be expected to perform by the Intern.

  • Participate and support the Internal Audit Team during risk assessment, risk identification, analysis, and updating relevant documents, developing tools etc in the areas of Donor regulations, CARE USA and CO's policies and procedures, and other relevant requirements

  • Assist and help in preparing annual audit plans, audit programs and schedules, and audit checklist

  • Assist the staff to comply with financial and other organizational rules and regulations

  • Assist the staff to provide correct financial documents by sharing the checklist

  • Support and prepare reminders to audited units’ management for delayed monthly and annual audit monitoring responses

  • Assist in follows-ups and ensures that the recommendations of CARE USA and other external auditors are implemented

  • Assist the team in monitoring the compliance of physical inventory at the end of the fiscal year and project closeout in accordance with donor’s & CO requirements

  • Assist the team in evaluating the adequacy of an internal control system for the assigned Unit or Project

  • Perform other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS

  • 0 years of experience (Fresh graduate)

  • good written and verbal Amharic, English, and language skills

  • Good computer proficiency (i.e., Ms. Word, Excel,)

  • Firm belief in gender equality and sensitivity to vulnerable groups 

  • Team player, flexible, and able to work in the multi-cultural working setting

  • Quick learning ability, communication, and strong interpersonal skills.

  •  Ability to work in a stressful situation can multi-task, excellent writing skills, team player and problem solver
