The U.S. Mission in Addis Ababa/Ethiopia is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Mechanic (Building Trades).
The work schedule for this position is: Full Time (44 hours per week)
Start date: Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time (4 weeks) of receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.

Duties
The incumbent is employed as a metalworker under the Facility section to carry out skilled maintenance and repair work throughout the New Embassy Compound (NEC) functional/office buildings, on-compound ancillary support and residential buildings, recreational facilities, and other owned/leased properties.
The basic function of a metalworker is operating manual or automated machinery and hand tools used to form, cut, join metal, finish, and assemble metal components. Jobholder would repair, adjust, and manufacture metallic doors, compound gates, windows, handrails, guardrails, grills, gutter, generator shed, and maintenance of door handles and perform inspections.
Also, assists, as needed other shops such as painting, plumbing, carpentry, and general cleanup of work areas.
Other tasks of a metalworker include showing basic safety and how to operate the machine tools for less experienced workers (e.g., newly recruited junior and apprentice metalworkers).
Job Requirements
EXPERIENCE: A minimum of three (3) years experience working as a journey-level metal worker in the manufacturing, repair and maintenance of doors, compound gates, windows, handrails, guardrails, grills, gutter, and generator shed and performing inspections.

EDUCATION: Successful completion of High school and a vocational training diploma/certificate (2-3 years of studies) from an accredited institution recognized as producing journeyman-level metalwork.

The incumbent serves as an incidental operator of official vehicles and meets all requirements outlined in 14 FAM 433.
Must have a valid Auto/2nd-grade driver’s license. Must have had a valid driver’s license for a minimum of five (5) years. (These may be tested)

The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.
