Background

The Hunger Project (THP) is a global, non-profit, strategic organization committed to the sustainable end of world hunger. THP believes in a world where every woman, man and child can lead a healthy, fulfilling life of self-reliance and dignity; and works towards that goal by pioneering sustainable strategies for woman-focused and Integrated Community Led Development, which is the process of working together to create and achieve locally owned visions and goals. The Hunger Project – Ethiopia (THP-E) is implementing projects in rural areas of Ethiopia since 2004 and currently started a WASH and nutrition project in Merhabete Woreda of North Shoa Zone and recruiting full time staff for the position:

Job Summery 

Under the supervision of the THP-E Program Manager, WASH & Nutrition Officer will implement, manage and monitor the Nutrition and WASH activities at Kebele level in Merhabete Woreda and ensure that project activities result in greater progress & synergies for nutritional and WASH impact.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Mobilize and orient the target community on the project objectives in cooperation with relevant Kebele level government extension agents and community leaders.

  • In cooperation with Zonal and Woreda Water Offices, follow up the construction of water infrastructure in the target Kebeles.

  • Initiate the formation and develop capacity of water management committees.

  • Implement maternal and under five children nutrition activities in the target Kebele levels.

  • Facilitate village level community conversations on personal, food/water hygiene and sanitation problems and social and gender norms that influence nutrition.

  • Implement nutrition sensitive agriculture including home gardening, including home gardening for fruits and vegetables.

  • Promote latrine construction and household sanitation and hygiene practices.

  • Provide Nutrition and WASH trainings to Animators (community peer educators).

  • In consultation with the THP-E Program Manager, represent THP-E at Woreda level technical coordination meetings and forums that relates to WASH and Nutrition.

Job Requirements

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in nutrition, public health or related development field.

  • At least 3 years of work experience in food security & nutrition and/or WASH projects.

  • Knowledge on “first 1000 days” nutrition and WASH approaches.

  • Strong group facilitation, training, and interpersonal skills.

  • Good communication and report writing skills in English and computer literate.

  • Ability working with multi-disciplinary technical specialists and manage multiple activities.
