The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) was founded in 1970 through the initiative of the Norwegian and Swedish Save the Children organizations seconded by the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia. The Institute got its name from the Norwegian physician, Gerhard Henrik Armauer Hansen, who first described the leprosy bacillus (Mycobacterium leprae). AHRI is a biomedical research institute that works in developing tools for prevention, control and treatment of mycobacterium and other diseases of public healthy importance through applied and basic biomedical research and training.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Cascading general plan of the directorate, perform a detailed weekly, monthly and yearly plan

• Support and manage standard collection, transportation and handling of specimens, aliquots and Data adhering to a given study protocol

• Conduct research, in accordance with the purpose of the study, store and record samples according to the correct storage policy

• Perform laboratory-based activities using different techniques. Prepares Medias and working reagents according to the recommendation of study protocols

• Participate in preparation of guidelines, manuals and standard operating procedures relevant to her/his assigned activities as well as updating available documents

• Shall be involved in internal and external quality control activities working collaboratively to be accredited by the accreditation agencies.

• Use supplies and reagent appropriately with minimal wastage and using the supply management principle of the organization.

• Verify laboratory findings, report to researchers and insure proper storage system of analyzed specimens or aliquots

• Assist with monitoring activities, ensuring safety and maintenance guidelines for daily laboratory activities, follow up on a list of laboratory equipment

• Assist researchers as requested

• Implement safety and waste management guidelines

• Prepare monthly, quarterly, half year and yearly performance reports

• Record any incidents and repots, constraints to the immediate supervisor, central laboratory case team leader and logistic officer

• Assisting laboratory visitors as well as interns coming from universities and research institutions

• Shall be Involved in any laboratory improvement projects    

• Participate in case team meeting, workshops, Seminars, Journal clubs, and other committee meetings

• Participation in annual technical report preparation Internal newsletter and laboratory guidance

• Participating in other activities assigned by the immediate supervisor

Job Requirements

-          BSc in Natural Science/Biology
