Job Description
Samaritan's Purse is currently embarking on recovery and resilience building project that focuses on livelihood and trauma healing for conflict affected communities in North Wollo. The project will work closely with returnees and affected communities by providing a range of integrated interventions that aim to achieve trauma healing and livelihood recovery.
The Protection Coordinator is responsible for technically coordinate counselling, protection, GBV and trauma healing components of the project which is integrated with livelihood recovery. The Protection Coordinator will support the overall program management and coordination of protection programming. Protection mainstreaming activities includes coordination of trauma healing sessions, training beneficiaries and staff on protection principles and prevention of gender-based violence, coordinate psycho-social support and support GBV survivors in conflict affected communities. The Coordinator shall also represent SP in the local clusters, and coordinate interventions with other actors to ensure appropriate responses to identified protection concerns or issues.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the Protection component of a Healing through Livelihoods Project with specific focus on trauma healing, GBV prevention and case management, volunteerism, and individual counselling overall protection activities.
Develop partnerships and ensure effective coordination with local clusters, service providers, international organizations faith leaders, sector offices, local churches and schools to facilitate trauma healing sessions.
Training staff, beneficiaries and vendors on protection principles and the prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA).
Facilitate Trauma Healing Sessions for ToTs and cascade healing sessions for conflict affected communities.
Follow-up on the emergency sectors program capacity building needs, facilitate training and workshops for staff, beneficiaries, and other stakeholders as needed
Support livelihood project staff and other sectoral teams to mainstream protection in their activities through the provision of training.
· Facilitate community dialogue session and raising awareness about trauma among internally displaced people (IDP) and returnees and assist them to develop coping mechanism and foster locally available remedies
· Develop protection IEC messages and learning aid for the community facilitators or volunteers.
Contribute to the contextualization of protection tools and guidelines according to international standards and best practices.
In coordination with the area manager and livelihood coordinator, document lessons learned interventions and activities.
Support the development of integrated referral pathways between partners and relevant stakeholders.
Coordinate with other service providers to ensure holistic support for GBV survivors and vulnerable children, including participation in strengthening referral pathways
Compile progress reports, lesson learnt and challenges of the protection program
Knowledge, Education & Skills Required:
MA or BA Degree in Psychology, social work or related fields; MA or other related advanced degree is preferred.
Extensive Training in trauma healing, counselling is preferred
Excellent written and oral communication skills and be comfortable participating both as an effective contributor and a listener in-group setting which include senior staff.
Knowledge of SPHERE and established international protection and GBV standards, methodology and tools.
Knowledge of multi-sectoral approaches to mainstreaming protection.
Proficient in use of computers
Experience
Minimum 2 years work experience (for MA holders) and 4 years for BA holders in protection, GBV management, trauma healing and counselling.
Experience in group therapy, Christian counseling, is advantageous
Experience of working with refugees, IDPs and returnees
