JOB SUMMARY
Under the administrative supervision of the Marketing and Communication Director, the Research Advisor coordinates all research activities for Marie Stopes International Ethiopia’s core business and projects and facilitates for an informed decision through providing qualitative and quantitative data that has a cross cutting nature. The Advisor works closely with MIS, Grants, Service Outlets, Departments and MSI International Team.
DUTES/TASKS
Managing research activities
· Designs quantitative and qualitative research studies in line with MSI Ethiopia’s programme information needs;
· Develops well budgeted and realistic research component for MSI Ethiopia’s concept notes and grant proposals;
· Monitors Research budget;
· Prepares data collection tools and train field data collectors, and monitor implementation of field research activities.
· Manages and supervises all consultants contracted to conduct research on behalf of MSI Ethiopia;
· Ensures data collected is entered using appropriate software packages, cleaned and analysed;
· Prepares bidding documents for research activities;
· Undertakes research activities and undertakes baseline surveys in the areas of new program intervention;
· Keeps relevant staff members abreast of new research by other organisations with relevance for MSI Ethiopia’s work.
· Prepares research findings for presentation at national and international conferences and for submission to peer reviewed journals and other publications.
Liaises with external research collaborators (e.g. WHO, USAID etc.) on specific research protocols conducted in partnership with MSI Ethiopia.
Coordination for donor-funded projects
Works with Grant Team to ensure that up-to-date Research Plans are in place for all donor-funded projects.
Designs output indicators and manage research for all donor funded programs;
Ensures all provider and client communications materials are pre-tested as per the any global standard tools and frameworks;
Support in bringing organizational excellence through conducting pertinent researches;
Provides the researched inputs during the development and review of MSI Ethiopia’s strategic plan, and annual business plans;
Provides technical inputs on research during the development of project proposals;
Proactively engage with SLT to flag or disseminate changes in service delivery trends following regular programme monitoring and data analysis;
Work in close coordination with MIS Manager and other departments.
Liaises proactively with Marie Stopes International Regional Research Office;
Performs related tasks as required
PERSON SPECIFICATIONS
Qualification Requirements
Education:
MSc/BSc in Statics, Demography research, public health or related discipline;
Experience:
Fur/Six years of relevant experience
Skill, Attitude and Attributes:
Proven good technical oral, written, and editing abilities;
Ability to present and write to multiple audiences;
Quantitative and qualitative research skills;
Extensive working knowledge of computers;
Ability to work well with others in team environments;
Strong advisory skills;
Strategic guidance and planning skills;
Motivated for personal and professional development to develop.
