Children Believe Fund (CBF) is a child-centered, community-based international development organization devoted to addressing the needs of children, their families and communities by implementing programs that focus on education, early childhood development, child protection, health & nutrition, WASH, sustainable livelihood development, disaster risk reduction and gender equality in different parts of Ethiopia. Currently Children Believe Fund wants to hire one Business Development Manager for CBF Ethiopia Country Office.

 Job Responsibilities:

The Business Development Manager (BDM) will be responsible for developing business development (NBD)/ grants acquisition and management strategy and plans, donor mapping, maintaining donor database and updating donor landscape assessment. NBDM regularly researches and identifies relevant funding opportunities from institutional funding agencies and corporate donors, develops technically sound and quality concept notes and proposals, establishes consortia for joint proposal preparation and submission. BDM is also responsible for donor compliance. The BDM enhances donor relations and engagement, builds and/or maintain positive and productive relations with donors, partner organizations and other stakeholders at all levels, advocates and mobilizes local efforts to build Children Believe’s (CB) public relations to leverage resources, build and maintain partnerships. 

Key responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Develop New Business Development Strategy, Grants/New Business Annual Plan and Annual Grant Revenue Forecast.

  • Research and identify opportunities for funding from funding agencies through assessing potential funding source (donors).

  • Undertake and lead prospecting activities and intelligence gathering through research and identification of donor interests and priorities

  • Carry out regular research and map existing and new donor prospects and familiarize key donors with Children Believe’s (CB’s) work.

  • Analyze changing donor strategies and advise on effective advocacy to donors

  • Lead the Go/No-Go process for all new opportunities identified for the Country Office and ensure that all proposals follow the Grants Acquisition process and Policy.

  • Regular communications/discuss with the Business Development Manager (BDM) and Global Partnerships Director (GPD) in Global Office on grant acquisition issues.

  • Maintain regular tracking grant documents and communicate these to Canada Office (global Office) on a regular basis.

  • Participate in or lead conducting communities’ needs assessment to generate information used as inputs for concept notes and proposals development.

  • Develop technically sound concept notes, project ideas and expression of interest.

  • Develop and submit (take the lead for submission of) full proposals with budgets and all required supplementary documents and lead the Country Office NBD target setting for each year.

  • Actively involved in and spearhead the initiation and setting up of consortium for joint proposal preparation and submission.

  • Negotiate grant agreements

  • Contribute to concept papers, proposal development and donor reporting as initiated by Program Manager and staff in Canada or the wider Global grants team.

  • Support developing multi-country, regional and global proposals, and maintains effective communication between the CB Canada Office, and the Country Office

  • Plan and implement donor relationship strategies

  • Develop donor engagement note and cultivate and maintain a network of bilateral, multilateral, corporate, private and other funder contacts.

  • Build and/or maintain positive and productive relations with existing donor contacts, partner organizations and other stakeholders at all levels; and identify and build new relationships with funding institutions or organizations.

  • Advocate and mobilize local efforts to build Children Believe’s (CB) public relations to leverage resources, build and maintain partnerships as well as CB’s public image with multiple audiences in the country.

  • Participate in relevant national clusters and networks to share/gain information and experience and strengthen relationship with likeminded organizations for joint grant application.

  • In collaboration with Communication Manager and other CB’s staff, produce quality stories, video clips and reports that can be shared with donors.

  • Regularly communicate with Global Partnerships Director (GPD) in Global Office on grant donor relations/donors’ engagement issues.

  • Ensure donors compliance

  • Provide CB’s and partners’ staff with training on grant acquisition, project design, project cycle management, donor requirements, organization’s internal procedures in relation to donors and other related issues.

  • Educate staff and partners on the grants acquisition strategy of the Country Office.

  • Assist in selection of new partners, as needed, for new grant acquisition.

  • Actively participate and contributes to Children Believe’s global BD Community of Practice (COP)

  • Prepare and submit NBD reports and update online grant pipelines.

  • Maintain donor database and update donor landscape assessment/strategy as needed.

  • Build capacity of staff to utilize programme management database effectively when a programme has external donor funding.

  • Collaborate with Program Manager and Project manager/Coordinator on grant management to ensure compliance with funders’ and CB’s regulations and timelines.

  • Comply with all CB policies and procedures.

  • Remain alert and responsive to any safeguarding (Child Safeguarding & Prevention of Sexual Exploitation & Abuse) risks, acquire relevant knowledge and skills, to understand the safeguarding policies and procedures, promote strong safeguarding practices, and conduct oneself in a manner consistent with the policies in place.

  • Manage information pertaining to relevant CB pages on CB’s Intra-net and update as required.

  • Facilitate/coordinate in-country visits from media, photographers and staff member from other countries. Ensure proper documentation and report on such activities.

Duty station: Addis Ababa with frequent visit to various areas in the country

Job Requirements

 Required Qualification & Experience:

  • MA/MSc Degree in Project Management, Development Studies, Communications, Business Administration, Public Relations and/or other related areas.

  • 5+ years’ experience of working in a similar role of Business Development/Grant acquisition and management and fund-raising, donor relation and networking

  • 3 – 5 years experience of working in international non-for-profit organizations

  • Exceptional verbal and written fluency in English.

  • Proficient in at least one of local languages in our areas of operations.

  • Excellent writing and research skills both online and traditional.

  • Hands on experience in social media and digital communications tools & platforms

  • Excellent skills in project design and management, and donor relations.

  • Strong computer-based user skills -Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel and Power Point is mandatory.

  • Skilled and creative in needs assessment, project coordination and implementation.

  • Business organization skills – planning, setting priorities, organizing, evaluating, monitoring and multi-tasking.

  • Ability to travel to Partner offices & CB’s project field office and communities as needed.

  • Ability to produce highly creative and innovative solutions

  • Ability to work well under pressure, proactive and efficient

  • Ability to work autonomously and in a team

  • Ability to work with stakeholders from diverse cultural backgrounds in the appropriate manner

  • Handling risk and crisis management experience is necessary.
