Job Description

ROLE PURPOSE:

The job holder will be primary responsible to implement the program activities at community level and provides continues support and assists the Program coordinator. S/he will also be responsible to support program planning and coordination in regional program activities and also ensures active involvement of communication with the communities and partners for smooth and successful implementation of program components as per approved program document; and government and donor requirements and standards.

SCOPE OF ROLE:

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Provide technical support to the project targets on gender

  • Organize and conduct gender-related awareness creation trainings for target young women in targeted kebeles, particularly on gender inequality, stigma

  • Facilitate and support gender material provision at the grass-root level in collaboration the project and women and youth sectors

  • Plan and organize community mobilization platforms and awareness creation events on Gender issues,

  • Collect and avail informational gender related IEC/BCC materials preparation and development for the project

  • Conduct Intake assessment on gender and regularly monitor their progress

  • Gather information and understand key gender issues in the implementation area focusing on boys and girls [e.g GBV, Early child marriage, and others] and adopt strategies to address them as necessary

  • Ensure gender equality and women empowerment through their meaningful participation and engagement in economy, political right and social aspects

  • Conduct experience sharing visits to model women and girls on changing gender roles and responsibilities, facilitate girls inspirational session regularly

  • Organize and facilitate community dialogues and girls on women leadership and empowerment to enhance their engagement of social, economic and political participation

  • Create and maintain smooth working relationship with government partners and other stakeholders and link program activities with the existing government structure

  • Actively participate in trucking the success and best practice documentation process of the project

  • Provide technical support to the project team at project intervention site

  • Assist in the development of concept notes, project documents and policy frameworks and research area and gender issues for best practices as directed by supervisor.

  • Participate in gender related community of practice in the zone/district/.

  • Support in writing stories related to programme and project developments as they relate to gender equality issues

  • Document best practices and compile lessons learnt to ensure documentation, learning and advocacy

  • Establish links and good relationships with relevant government offices/authorities and with like minded NGO’s in the area to ensure collaboration and networking

  • Mentor and coach women and girls in the project site, conduct monitoring progress and report project results regularly

  • Perform other work related duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by project Manager

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE 

Essential: 

  • A minimum of Bachelor Degree in Gender/psychology studies, sociology, social work, Development studies, law and other related social science fields

  • At least 5 years direct experience in gender and women empowerment area

  • Having knowledge & exposure to a range of gender mainstreaming & gender development issues

  • Ability to evaluate and integrate gender equality strategic objectives into broader program strategies

  • Project management skills, technical capacity on training, Advocacy, networking & partnership, communications skills, interpersonal skills, facilitator skills,,

  • Excellent understanding of the culture and ways of living of target communities.

  • Good written and spoken English.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and excellent awareness about communities, government structure and etc.

  • Good report writing skill; able to collect document and share records and information.

  • Ability and willingness to travel and work in rural Kebeles where the program is implemented, within approved security frameworks.

  • Basic computer skills and mobile literacy are desirable.

  • Experiences of working in NGOs; and communities at grass root level are advantageous

  • Experiences in volunteering, community service and passion for development work are advantageous.

Desirable

·       Skills in designing and implementing gender integration policy and strategy at different institutional level
