Who we are
SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia is an International Non-governmental organization and a member of SOS Children’s Villages International Federation. The organization started its humanitarian work with the opening of its first Village in Mekelle, Northern part of Ethiopia in 1974. The organization has been providing life-saving provisions such as food, water and health services for a very significant number of children devastated by severe drought and the subsequent famine.
Today, we have grown significantly to meet the persistent challenges that confront Ethiopian children who have lost parental care and are at risk of losing their parental care. Working in close collaboration with international donors, local government and community based organizations across seven program locations; SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia aspires that every child grows up with love, respect and security.

We are looking for a Gender and PSHEA Officer who will be responsible for ensuring Gender and Protection of Sexual Harassment, Exploitation, and abuse mechanism are addressed in the Humanitarian Response intervention projects.

Your role....
While working with us a Gender and PSHEA Officer you will be;
In charge of the following:
Technical Assistance for the project
Provide technical support during the implementation of the project, use gender-sensitive tools, and support the project team to incorporate gender and GBV prevention in the Humanitarian responses.
Provide support in community assessment to identify critically vulnerable members as targets of the project.
Plan and lead gender-related community activities and develop campaigns to create awareness regarding Gender equality in the community and among stakeholders.
Responsible for strengthening our safeguarding, (particularly with regards to Preventing Sexual Harassment, Exploitation, and Abuse (PSHEA)) measures and interventions in our emergency response project
Plan and lead gender-related community activities and develop campaigns to create awareness regarding Gender equality in the community and among stakeholders.
Support in developing complaints and feedback on gender-sensitive issues and review any complaints from the community and ensure Children and Youth are prioritized in the Humanitarian response
Document the learning process and changes to support the project and lessons learned to be utilized for other Humanitarian projects.
Conduct periodic reviews on gender and PSHEA awareness and provide a monthly report on the progress to the Area Coordinator.
PSHEA
Provide training and capacity-building activities to identify target groups and stakeholders in the community regarding PSHEA
Ensure all SOS Children’s Village PSHEA regulations are implemented during the emergency response and ensure the co-workers are aware of the regulations.
Map the capacity-building activities in the woreda and be responsible to support the MHPSS officer on working with Gender-Based Violence (GBV) survivors within the community.
Support the project by integrating PSHEA during the response and ensure co-workers, community and stakeholders had an understanding of the regulations.
Lead, identify, assess, and monitor overall capacity-building needs on PSHEA with various stakeholders and government offices to ensure effective capacity building.
Gender
Responsible for conducting gender analysis and gender-related assessment in the community and providing reports to the Area project coordinator.
Monitor, review and evaluate the implementation of gender mainstreaming within the project and collaborate with the project team members,
Support to ensure that gender considerations are integrated into the M&E process and report on gender-specific indicators to the project team.
Follow up on any gender-related activities and provide support to the project team and stakeholders in designing and implementing of the project activities.
Child Safeguarding
Responsible to take part in awareness-raising sessions and capacity-building training in relation to Child Safeguarding to prevent and protect children and young people from all forms of abuse, abandonment, exploitation, violence and discrimination
Support children and young people to make them understand the CS risks and protection mechanisms
Responsible to report any CS suspicion, concern, allegation or incident immediately, following Child Safeguarding reporting procedures. CS reports should be made to the CS team at the programme level and/or to the respective line manager

The must haves:
Education:
BA degree in gender, social work, and development studies and related fields
Experience:
2 years prior experience in gender and PSHEA roles
Experience working with an International organization in Humanitarian or development programs
Experience working on community mobilization and dialogue
Experience in developing training manuals and working on capacity development of the community.
Technical Skills
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of concepts, principles and approaches to Human rights and women’s rights, gender and humanitarianism and international development
Knowledge of Gender Mainstreaming and experience in gender and PSHEA project.
Has Experience working with M&E and providing reports.
Experience in working with government stakeholders and the community regarding PSHEA
Experience in creating awareness of Gender and PSHEA.
Experience working with GBV survivors and has taken training on related topics.
Core Competencies
Communication skill:- excellent in verbal and written communication. In addition, communicating with various stakeholders
Capacity Building:- the ability to develop and deliver training on Gender and PSHEA
