Job Description

Under direct supervision of APCfC Field Project Coordinator, the overall role of the MSD Officer is to facilitate smooth implementation of the MSD oriented community-based protection of the natural resources and the environment and for the project program participants to experience sustainable economic well-being. Providing support to the field team in terms of Market System Development, and facilitating the identification of potential local market actors, participating in intervention designing and work with private sector actors for sustainable business linkage creation is also key roles of the MSD officer.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate and implement activities related to value chain development and market system development

  • Support and ensure that activities of the Project are implemented in compliance with the Market System Development Approach and principles.

  • Support assessment of the potential of the project area and make feasibility assessments to assist through market linkage and facilitation role

  • Support communities to actively engage in protecting natural resources and the environment with the application of co-investment model.

  • Facilitate for the program participants and target communities to have financial and material capacities for management of rangelands, soil conservation initiatives and water schemes.

  • Support Self-help group members have new knowledge and skills on saving and credit practices and have improved knowledge and skills on viable, sustainable and inclusive livelihood options and value chains.

  • Ensure that program participants have improved access to input, services and products, improved access to new market price information on the selected value chain

  • Coordinate local value chain market actors to have access to functional value chain market coordination platform

  • Ensure a data base is developed and its performance and functionality are monitored periodically.

  • Provide entrepreneurship and small business management coaching together with assigned local resource persons.

  • Supervise, coach and mentor the assigned local Market Development consultants.

  • Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports and share with the field project coordinator.

  • Perform additional activities assigned by the supervisor

Required number: 1 (one)

Duty Station:   Mega-Dire with frequent travel to project sites in Dire and Moyale Woredas

Terms of Employment: Ten months (with the possibility of extension), Full time

Basic Salary: Birr 24,822.70(Twenty-four thousand eight hundred twenty-two & seventy cents) plus 30% hardship Allowance

Job Requirements

Education and Work Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree in agricultural economics, business Administrations, marketing, agricultural economics, economics,

  • Minimum of 3-year experience working on MSD and value-Chain Projects.

  • NGO experience is an asset.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience in the areas of value chain is required, basic knowledge and skill in areas of feasibility studies, business plan preparation; value chain marketing, market system development and report writing is advantageous,

  • Knowledge and understanding about major barriers of women in business activities.

  • Flexibility, adaptability, and ability and willingness to operate independently in remote and potentially risky environments for protracted periods, involving physical hardship

  • Command of MS Package (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook); Strong writing, reporting and communication skills;

  • Good command of English, and Afan Oromo, both written and spoken.

  • Good interpersonal relationships and team work skills in a multi-cultural environment

  • Excellent networking skills with the ability to establish good relationships, confident in engaging with colleagues, partners and stakeholders.

  • Readiness to work outside of the framed job description.

  • Experience in working with enterprises/private sector actors, labor market, financial market actors and good understanding of Market system development in fragile and pastoralist settings of the Country.

  • Good understanding of women empowerment, GBV and safeguarding.
