Job Description

EPHA is the major public health research and practice partner in public health in Ethiopia. Currently EPHA running a number of projects and research activities by securing funding from donors and partners throughout the country by mobilizing its central staff, Chapters as well as through engaging universities in Ethiopia.

Anticipating the possible increase of upcoming projects, EPHA is planning to hire an experienced, dependable and skilled professional public health expert that is able to coordinate research projects and Awards granted from donors for various public health activities.

Key areas of responsibility

The Awards and Projects coordinator will be responsible to:

  • prepare a monitoring chart to all existing and upcoming projects and monitor, evaluate assist and report their status

  • document new and or upcoming projects that are under development, follow their status and facilitate their completion

  • make a follow-up to assigned focal persons to each project.

  • participate in the recruitment and deployment of research and project staff to project sites

  • prepare quarterly report of every project including financial utilization

  • plan and implement workshops and trainings as indicated in the project proposal

  • evaluate performance of staff under her/ his span of control

  • works closely to project/ program coordinators to produce initial, midterm and final evaluation reports

  • assist in the facilitation of dissemination workshops and conferences

  • participate in new grant writing/making (solicited/unsolicited)

  • carry out other activities given to her/ him from the supervisor.

Duty Station: Addis Ababa, with travel to field visit as deemed necessary

Duration of Employment: one year with possible extension based on satisfactory performance and availability of budget

Report to: Research and Publications Director of EPHA

Job Requirements

Education/Training

  • MSc/ MPH or MD degree with specialization Epidemiology, M&E and Health Services Management. Other professionals from social sciences may also apply provided that they have MSc/ MPH in public Health.

  • Certificates in Grant writing and Management is an added value

Work Experience/ Competencies

  • A minimum of 5 years professional experience out of which 3 is in projects, research and grant management.

  • Ample experience in administration of grant-funded projects, including reporting, budget management, and workplan development.

  • Hands on experience in managing operational research, excellent data analysis, and research report writing.

  • Strong understanding of global and national health system, Current public health context, National policies, and laws.

  • Experience of working with EPHA and or organized projects under EPHA is an asset

Other required skills

  • Proven working experience in project management

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multitasking skills

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office

  • Experience with project management software tools is a plus

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks with short deadlines and able to efficiently perform in stressful working conditions.

  • Excellent project proposal writing and grant management skills

  • Result-oriented, self-motivated, proactive, problem solver, and an effective team player

  • Demonstrated excellence in organization and time management skills

  • Firm belief in teamwork, gender equality, diversity, and transparent and participatory management.

  • Ability to present self in a professional manner and represent the EPHA’s image.
