Job Description
Maintenance shift leader will make certain that Safety and Quality are at the forefront of all activities for both themself and their team mates. This role will work closely with other maintenance team members as well as other departments including Operations, Quality and others to ensure daily and weekly and other scheduled tasks are being completed on-time and according to standard operating procedures.
Lead and control technical operators and Mechanical/electrical maintenance technicians.
Based on the authority given to him/her he/she is responsible for filling out performance evaluations for employees under them and also authorized to take disciplinary measures on employees.
Key Accountabilities
Responsible for plant and engineering KPIs target achievement especially on machine efficiency and energy consumption and responsible on all shift tasks.
Commit to Occupational Health and Safety standards. Frequently state and articulate that Safety is our No.1 priority. Adhere strictly to the site safety rules and systems and equipment operational procedures.
Shall be committed to produce safe and quality products by following all instructions related to the Food Safety and Quality Management System.
Provide a comprehensive automation support on plant and equipment to which they are primarily allocated.
Maintain and improve our current carrying out maintenance schedules, responding to breakdowns, assessing & monitoring plant performance on an ongoing basis and attending to all other process duties in a timely manner.
Lead and coordinate maintenance crews for a shift operation; includes facility, packaging line, process and utility maintenance.
Use and compliant with ERP;
100% compliance on Meetings
Applying quality management and local management systems in combination with the standard work procedures;
Evaluates systems or facilities to determine maintenance or repairs that need to be performed on the shift.
Works with maintenance planner to plan work priorities, obtain necessary supplies, and assess skills needed to complete tasks.
Assesses building systems to plan work orders.
Collaborates with team members to discuss upcoming work orders; delegates maintenance plans based on the technical team skills and experience.
Ensures maintenance and repair work is complete safely, effectively and in a timely manner.
Assists technical team members with technical issues or advanced problems with given assignments.
Inspects work performed by technical team on the shift.
Tracks and logs workers time, materials, and other resources used for inventory purposes.
Works with maintenance planner and safety officer to coordinate topics for safety meetings.
Performs other related duties as assigned and manage spares in the shift manner.
Coordinating, involving and controlling the operational and machinery maintenance (protective and remedial) on shift base.
Manage materials, components and spares required by the plant and equipment includes draw down stock from locally provided “bins” and be accountable for whatever stock is drawn down.
Demonstrate flexibility in terms of availability, attitude and work practices, and assist colleagues in breakdowns, maintenance and solving problems on their equipment.
Support Engineering Manager to achieve maintenance and production plans, key performance targets and deliver agreed Customer Service levels. This will include full adherence to maintenance requests.
Actively pursue training and development on an individual and team basis and participate in competency-based training programs and develop positive relationships with colleagues, including contractors and suppliers.
Understand and maintain high standards of tidiness and organization in line with good 5S (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) practice.
Compile and commentate whatever reports are required either original reports or those generated automatically. This includes status sheets, check sheets, condition monitoring sheets and time-based reports etc.
Qualifications and Experience Required
BSC in Mechanical or Industrial/Electrical Engineering
Relevant 5 years’ experience in a similar work field at least 2 years in a Machine specialist or supervisor Position.
Experience in the beverage or FMCG industry is preferable.
Excellent computer skills and use of Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, outlook, explorer, PowerPoint and AutoCAD.
Fluency in Amharic and excellent command of written & spoken English
ERP standards knowledge

Demonstrate a detailed understanding of SHE policies, statutory requirements and responsibilities.
Ability to lead a team of maintenance technicians/engineers, working with manager and colleagues to ensure smooth workflow with maximum output.
Identifying Packaging, process, utilization of energy, quality issues and creating test reports.
Collaborating ability with the supplier’s team to solve technical faults.
Demonstrate understanding of teamwork principles, continuous improvement, preventative maintenance and problem solving.
Ability to demonstrate creativity in finding solutions for operational and technical problems in the factory and pursuing opportunities for business continuity.
Ability to consistently identify clear priorities in day to day operations and maintenance activities which focus on results at all times.
Ability to understand the link between company values capabilities and functional aspects of the role.
Ability to coach, counsel and lead a team of people and ability to connect and build positive relationships across functions and influences at all levels.
