Reports to: Director of Youth Inclusion and Engagement

Direct reports: Technical support to the CSOs youth advocacy officers

Work station Addis Ababa with frequent trips to the major cities in Ethiopia

Job Purpose

This role is responsible for youth led advocacy and meaningful engagement of youth in IYA program.  Will be responsible for advising the IYA consortium and stakeholders to promote youth engagement and participation, and to support youth-led advocacy. S/he will build the capacity of IYA team on youth led advocacy. S/he will approach IYA strategic partners, donor, and government for advocacy.  S/he will play strategic advisory role for the overall advocacy and meaningful youth engagement in IYA and beyond.

Key Responsibilities / Duties / Tasks

The Youth Advocacy and Engagement Advisor will provide strategic advisory to the director and Kefta consortium and local partners regarding engagement and meaningful participation of young people in kefta project activities. S/he will:

·       Advise the consortium members, partners, Cluster Hubs and City Hubs on how best to develop safe and effective ways to promote youth engagement and participation, and to support youth-led advocacy.

·       Contribute to the generation of evidence for youth led advocacy and design the advocacy strategy.

·       Design and develop comprehensive online and in person youth led advocacy training programmes, guides, resources and tools on youth led advocacy.

·       Conduct different youth led advocacy event starting from the Ethiopian parliament to the community level to influence policy and social norms for positive youth development.

·       Contribute to the development of a strategic plan and implementation guidelines, including defining priority youth advocacy agenda and targets as well as its implementation as per set standards

·       Provide the required technical support to ensure mainstreaming of meaningful youth engagement in all result areas of IYA as well as partners and stakeholders organizational structure

·       Coordinate the review of policy, legislative and programmatic frameworks in relation to the promotion and protection of youth rights, to ensure compliance with international and regional standards;

·       Coordinate and guide the development and implementation of plans of monitoring of meaningful youth engagement at different partners and stakeholders’ organizations;

·       Support in managing close relationships with relevant national and international stakeholders to advance cooperation and collaboration.

·       Support the identification and assistance of capacity building needs of both governmental and national CSOs Youth led advocacy and meaningful youth engagement and participation.

Job Requirements

Academic and Professional Qualifications

·       A BA degree in law, peace and security studies, Human Rights, Social science or related field from a recognized university;

·       Relevant professional qualification

Experience

·       BA degree with 5-7 years of experience on youth-led advocacy or related experiences

·       Master’s degree with 2-3 years’ experience in advocacy work or related experiences

·       Ethiopian and regional advocacy experience and strong networking skill is a plus

Skills / Competencies:

·       Meaningful youth engagement skills

·       Advocacy skill and Partnership management skill

·       Ability to operationalise strategy into action for the Function

·       Ability to sell the vision, Business/Financial Acumen, Business Savvy, Innovative.

·       Good report writing and public speaking

·       Basic computer skills – Microsoft office and standard business communication
