This role sits within the Resilience and Humanitarian Team (RHT). We also lead the UK’s response to humanitarian emergencies in Ethiopia.

This is an exciting and challenging time to join our team. You will work at the heart of the UK’s response to one of the most complex humanitarian situations in the world. You will be expected to support humanitarian reporting and analysis to the leadership of the British Embassy Addis Ababa, FCDO HQ in the UK, as well as visiting Ministers and senior officials. You will need to maintain an effective external network within the humanitarian community in Ethiopia.

This is an ideal position for someone who would like to deepen their experience in the humanitarian sector and gain an understanding of working for a donor.

Provide regular reporting and analysis of humanitarian needs and risks in Ethiopia. This will include producing regular situation reports, thematic and regional briefs (as required), and leading scenario planning exercises for the team.

Lead planning and management of field visits to FCDO funded programmes and areas of humanitarian concern in Ethiopia. Participate in some of these field visits (at least 10 days per year) to monitor programmes and inform situation assessments

Maintain an effective network within the Ethiopian humanitarian community. Specific responsibility for relationships with humanitarian information management specialists, logistics cluster, humanitarian security specialists, and Ethiopian NGOs.

Support humanitarian policy development and engagement with Government, humanitarian agencies and other partners.

Depending on the successful candidate’s experience and interests, there will also be an opportunity to lead on specific thematic areas within the team.
