Job purpose

The Project Officer will be responsible for successfully facilitating, implementing, and monitoring all required activities of the project based on the donor-approved project proposal and the operational agreement. The Project Officer will be in charge, in particular, of the project “Spice production and marketing for the sustainability of ecosystem service and benefiting youth in Kafa Biosphere Reserve, Ethiopia”.

Main duties and responsibilities

• Lead and implement project work plan, in particular, on smallholder engagement, quality production through processing, agronomic practice monitoring from planting through harvest schedules, raw material inventory

• Support training delivery and farmer monitoring,

• Manage processes related to traceability, product flow, supply chain, and logistics,

• Effective and ongoing engagement with government stakeholders, including Cooperative and Unions offices, women’s affairs departments, and other partners from kebele through zonal levels;

• Take initiate and deepen clear, consistent, and precise engagement as well as communications in writing and through in-person meetings with key stakeholders;

• Lead drafting, maintenance, and dissemination of field documents and agreements including collective agreement, contract farming arrangements, training manuals, and standards of operations in line with the project deliverables;

• Maintain and support internal reports and transactions for inventory, budgeting, and production;

• Organize documentation in a highly detailed and consistent manner;

• Provide other operational support services as required and;

• Prepare detailed annual and quarterly financial and activity plans and reports

Job Requirement

Required Qualifications

• B.Sc. in Plant Science, Horticulture, Natural Resource Management, or related fields with a minimum of 5 years of service;

• Working experience of at least 3 years in Kafa Zone in an NGO environment in livelihood projects;

• Proven working experience in participatory approaches and participatory community works;

• Experience in non-timber forest products (NTFPs) development and marketing;

• Excellent communication skills with local partners

• Both written and oral ability in English and Kafinono;

• Experience with international visitors and donor visits;

• Advanced knowledge in MS office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), Zoom, and Teams;

• Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team;

• Motorbike driving experience and driving license; and

• Excellent interpersonal skills.

Office location:  Bonga, Kafa Zone, Ethiopia, with frequent travel within Kafa Zone
