CHILD SAFEGUARDING:
Level 3: the role holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more) because he/she works at the community level. The role holder should be well acquainted with and act towards ensuring the organization’s Child Safeguarding Policy inclusive of awareness creation for prevention, reporting, and responding.

Project Overview:
The overall goal of Leadership and Economic Empowerment Project (LEEP) is to create opportunities for young women in business in semi-urban and urban areas to empower themselves to engage meaningfully in their development, improve their technical and transferable skills and have equal access to, and use of capital, resources and services to achieve economic self-sufficiency and well-being. The young women will receive the resources needed to scale their businesses, support their families and become agents of change, role models and leaders in their communities.
LEEP project will be implemented from February 1, 2023 to January 31, 2026 to address 8900 young women in business in Sidama region, SNNPR and AddisAbaba. The project has the below three objectives:
Objective I: Young women access and use assets to develop and grow their businesses
Objective 2: Young women develop capabilities, skills knowledge and attitudes to manage and grow their businesses
Objective 3: Young women live in a healthy, violence-free and supportive environment in their households, communities and society and are part of a collaborative effort to advocate for equal access to resources and services
Purpose of the Role
The Regional Gender and SRH coordinator is principally responsible to supervise the targeted project interventions, provides technical support to Gender and SRH officers on Gender and SRH related activities including about the project implementation, quality assurance and technical assistance for wereda and project activities on coordination and partnership with actors. The jobholder will be primarily responsible to implement the program activities at city/town/wereda/community level, provides continues technical support, training, coaching and improve the project staff/team performance. S/he will also be responsible to support project planning and coordination in regional/wereda project activities and ensures active involvement of communication with project participants, communities and partners for smooth and successful implementation of project components as per approved project document; and government and donor requirements and standards. S/he will also be responsible to facilitate the strengthening of childcare corner and SHR corner at YES Centres. Under the mentorship, technical and administrative guidance of the LEEP program manager s/he will also actively participate in, and strengthen, multi-sectoral coordination among the various relevant sectors focusing on Gender and SRH components of the project intervention.
Job specific roles and responsibilities
Coordinate, supervise, and provide technical assistance for proper planning and implementation of LEEP projects in the assigned interventions
Provide technical support including training to project staffs, stakeholders and direct beneficiaries focusing on Gender, husband schooling, SRH and child safeguarding
Provide technical support to the project targets on gender, sexual and reproductive health including, early pregnancy, family planning, menstruation and personal hygiene
Organize and train young women friendly SRH-FP services to health workers (HWs) and HEWs in line with the national guidelines at Gulele and Nifassilk sub cities of Addis Ababa at four YES centres
Conduct SRH-FP and gender-related awareness creation trainings for target young women in targeted kebeles, particularly on SRH behaviours, stigma and judgment surrounding ARSH, life skills in developing sexual behaviours, ARSH problems, HTPs with particular focus on child marriage, FGM, S/GBV.
Facilitate linkage and work intensively with regional and local health centres and facilities to increase young women’s access and practice to reproductive health services on SRH-FP
Facilitate and support SRH and gender material provision at the grass-root level in collaboration with YES centres and health facilities/women and youth sectors
Lead any Gender related assessments or research with Save the Children Ethiopia Country Office in collaboration with the LEEP program Manager
Plan and organize community mobilization platforms and awareness creation events on Gender and SRH issues
Promote and Support YES centres’ services particularly SRH programs for the young women to access in their locality
Establish SRH clubs in YES centres and ensure strong referral linkage between YES centres and health Facilities’ for cases require medical attention
Collect and avail informational business and SRH related materials in the YES centres
Closely follow and support the YFS/ youth-friendly services and peer educators’ activities in all health centres
Conduct Intake assessment on gender and young women reproductive health and regularly monitor their progress
Gather information and understand key gender issues in the implementation area focusing on young women [e.g GBV, Earley child marriage, SRH and others] and adopt strategies to address them as necessary
Create and maintain smooth working relationship with government partners and other stakeholders and link program activities with the existing government structure
Actively participate in tracking the success and best practice documentation process of the project
Provide technical support and supervision for woreda Gender and SRH Officers.
Regularly visit field activities and provide formal and informal feedback to Gender and SRH officers in terms of adequate and inadequate progress as well as recommendations for improved performance;
Continuously assess project’s context, assumptions and changes in the working environment to ensure that the project focus, strategies and activities remain relevant and to proposed adjustments when needed.
Contribute to ensure that Save the Children’s Common Approaches are applied with support from FSL/R and LEEP Program Manager.
Coordinate, participate and contribute for new program development and planning meetings that takes into account quality standards of SCI.
Facilitate the involvement of volunteers from different sectors to support the program.
Develop ToR and raise procurement requests (PRs) for any project related purchase in consultation with the project staff.
Produce wereda level project plans & reports are good quality, regularly updated and timely produced and communicated to all stakeholders.
Organize periodic (Quarterly, BI-Annually) review meetings involving all relevant SHs (including project staff, support functions and partners) to assess all project management documents and evaluate if project is being implemented on time, achieving results and quality.
Represent the project and delivery of coaching and training activities under respective woreda with the support from program manager
Communicate effectively with program staff and partners to identify needs and develop alternatives business solutions.
Produce timely and quality of periodic reports to relevant receipts
Coordinate & ensure team sprit develop among project staff at city/town/wereda level.
Organize periodic meetings with field staff.
Maintain program files and related program inputs are properly documented and available at safer places.
Collect lessons, evidences and best practices of the project, documents and disseminate
Contribute on implementation of SCI’s polices and strategies on the ground (Child safeguarding, contribute to address the voice of children ...)
Carry out other duties as requested by the LEEP program manager
Essential:
MA/ BA Degree preferable in field (s) such as social work, gender, rural development, Public health, Health officer, and related courses
6 years of relevant progressive experience, out of which 4 years in Gender and health related positions.
Experience of working with youth livelihoods development programs in rural and urban setups
Excellent understanding of the culture of and ways of living of target operational Areas
Good written and spoken English
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with private sectors, communities, government structure, existing NGOs…etc
Good team player and open for new ideas and learning
Good report writing skill, able to collect, document and share program records and information
Experiences of working in INGOs, Communities at grass root level, local training institutes are advantageous
Knowledge of computer applications
Ability and willingness to travel and work in rural areas where the program is implemented, within approved security frameworks
Desired
Bachelor degree in Public Health, Gender and rural development, Health Officer, Health Promotion and Health Education, specific experience of working on gender and sexual and reproductive health aspects in rural areas,
Recommended a minimum of five-year experience with solid experience in SRH/FP and gender integration
Skills in designing and implementing gender integration policy and strategy at different institutional level
Proven analytical and problem solving skills;
Experience working on multi-year grant funded projects
Ability to travel throughout the focus zone, woredas, kebele and other rural areas as needed.
Strong results orientation.
Experience in multi-sectoral coordination.
Ability to manage complex and demanding workload.
Experience in NGO setup.
Experience working in the region and understanding of the context.
