Job Description

This position is a professional position within International Medical Corps (IMC) Ethiopia. The Mental Health Officer will work under the direction and support of the Senior MHPSS Officer.

The MHPSS Officer work within a case management model using a biopsychosocial, multidisciplinary and a community-based approach. He/she will be a frontline worker providing mental health case management sessions and services to refugees /displaced population in the given location and vulnerable host communities, whereby the mentioned population’ needs are addressed in a timely and efficient manner, using a variety of non-pharmacological MHPSS

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSABILITIES

Job Description/Responsibilities: 

·         Promote and introduce the International Medical Corps (IMC) mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) services to institutions, centers, PHCCs and individuals.

·          Oversee and ensure accordance with IMC Mental Health Case Management model in mental health case management services (assessment, care planning, referral, follow up and discharge)

·         Provide supervision and guidance for MHPSS community mobilizers/center facilitators

·         Build and maintain a solid professional relationship with the clients, their environment and support networks.

·         Provide psychological and social support for MHPSS beneficiaries at the primary health care centers and community settings.

·         Comprehend, fully understand, and commit to IMC mental health case management model.

·         Work closely with the members of MHPSS case management team (psychotherapist/psychiatrist) to develop and follow up on the intervention plans.

·         Provide accurate referrals and ensure adequate follow up of all cases referred.

·         Conduct outreach activities and home visits when needed and document it.

·         Prepare and conduct mental health awareness sessions using the relevant forms and background documentation developed and approved by IMC MHPSS department.

·         Conduct PSS activities.

·         Prepare and conduct psychoeducation sessions using the relevant forms and MH booklets developed and approved by IMC MHPSS department.

·         Ensure accurate documentation including records, client’s files maintaining confidentiality and consent.

·         Prepare, facilitate, and document Case Management technical meetings and case conferences.

·         Work in close coordination with the MHPSS managers on issues related to the field in terms of identification of challenges encountered, gaps, provide all necessary information to ensure better implementation of activities.

·         Attend regular meetings with MHPSS managers on weekly or biweekly basis.

  • Participate in meetings with the team and other partners when required by direct supervisor.

·         Assist MHPSS managers in compiling monthly reports and completing quantitative and qualitative reports when needed.

Job Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

o   Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology/Social Psychology/Developmental psychology with at least 3 years of counselling and social work experience

o   Degree in Psychology with a least 5 years of experience in counseling and social work

o   At least 2 years of mental health and psychosocial programming experience

o   In depth knowledge and experience of mental health and psychosocial programming in the humanitarian context essential.

o   Familiarity with IASC Guidelines on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support In Emergency Settings

o   Training experience required.

o   Proven counselling skills

o   Strong organizational and supervisory skills.

o   Strong writing and reporting skills.

o   Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work within different cultural environments

o   Honest, hardworking and a self-motivated person

o   Ability to work within a team structure or in isolation, flexible, and can cope with stressful workloads and working with limited resources

o   Ability to travel on short notice to project sites by car or air

o   Excellent English verbal and written skills

o   Computer skills: word, excel, and project manager

o   Local language skills is a plus
