Job Summary

The Child Protection coordinator is responsible for the design and implementation of a community-based child protection program focusing on children living in different care arrangement. He/she will be responsible for the case management, monitoring of children and establishing referral networks and coordination with key stakeholders working in northwestern IDP camps.

key Responsibilities:

·       Design and implement a community-based child protection program in accordance with the guideline and the standards of SP

·       Assess and review the situation of children living in different care arrangement and come up with appropriate strategies for addressing the protection needs.

·       Establish child friendly and supportive environment for children by involving the IDP community and other stakeholders

·       Closely monitor the verification and documentation of children

·       Establish and put in place an appropriate care arrangement, and suitable alternative care system with close supervision and attention to the individual needs of children.

·       Identify families with a potential to foster children in collaboration with social workers and community leaders.

·       Promote the participation of children in all matters affecting their lives.

·       Closely work with the community child welfare committee to raise community awareness on child protection concerns

·       Train and build the capacity of social workers on case management and social work skills

·       Support and link the mainstreaming of child protection to the different programs and social services to improve the living condition of children.

·       Conduct assessments to ensure the needs of children are addressed

·       Represent SP in the Child protection Coordination/Cluster meeting

·       Prepare budget, work and spending plans to monitor the proper utilization of the budget and timely implementation of activities.

·       Provide monthly progress reports to immediate supervisor and the technical team.

·       Perform other duties as assigned by his/her immediate supervisor

Coordination and Representation

·       Represent SP in protection coordination/Cluster meetings as agreed with the Protection Manager

·       Promote improved understanding of protection issues among all relevant stakeholders and ensure the observance of international protection and humanitarian law standards;

·       Support a consultative process with government counterparts at local levels, partners and persons of concern to develop and implement integrated strategies that address the key protection priorities, including, for example, child protection, GBV, and AGD approaches.

·       Monitoring, Reporting, and Development

·       Support the Protection manager and Area Manager on protection related proposals as relevant;

·       Develop protection-focused program monitoring tools as relevant and upon request;

·       Undertake quality control and site monitoring to ensure that services provided are according to international best practice standards;

·       Conduct program monitoring as per expected outputs and outcomes;

·       Ensure that the design and implementation of protection activities address protection needs of IDPs, and other vulnerable populations within SP's mandate, and contribute to the relevant durable solutions;

·       Ensure that quality assurance systems are developed and applied, with particular reference to the Core Humanitarian Standard and Age, Gender and Diversity throughout the program;

·       Explore new partnerships and work closely with the Protection manager and the other relevant staff to develop quality proposals, concept notes, and budgets.

·       Ensure that all project requirements and indicators are met and are of a high quality-cost effective implementation, this includes activity guidance, tools, or any innovative approach are developed to improve program quality and support the implementation at field level.

Key Work Relationships:

The child protection coordinator will report directly to the Protection Manager in based in Shire /Addis Ababa.

Job Requirements

Requirements
Education and Experience

·       University degree/MA in social work, Sociology or psychology preferred or any other social science fields;

·       Minimum 3 years work experience within the field of child protection, particularly within the field of migrant/IDP/refugee protection;

·       Proven experience in   case management and child protection programming;  

·       Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering high-quality trainings on case management, GBV core principles and other protection concepts;

·       Demonstrated experience coordinating with and supporting national and local authorities as well as humanitarian coordination forums;

Language

·       Fluent English (written and spoken) is mandatory.

·       Local language Tigrigna is an asset
