Program / Department Summary

Mercy Corps is implementing Climate-Proofing Food Security in Ethiopia’s Drought-Prone Lowland Areas project, the objective of this project is to enhance the livelihood, resilience, and food security of vulnerable communities, strengthen the adaptive capacities of communities, ecosystems, and systems, to reduce aid dependency by enabling program participants to become more self-reliant; and to demonstrate the effectiveness and impact of this integrated approach to bring it to scale. this project funded by World Food Program (WFP), with duration of one year in the inception.

General Position Summary

The propose of this position is to ask as driver of each and every activity of the project, he/she the actual implementor and who have closely working with community and government line offices at woreda level and kebeles.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  1. Develops their own deep understanding local community context like strengthening facilitation’ including coaching, relationship building, communicating, entrepreneurialism/business understanding and innovating;

  2. Works directly with project specialists, and coordinate and integrates Mercy corps project activities at his/her kebele levels and assist the Mercy Corps technical team and partners to get accurate information on actors, factors & performance of local level economy and help them to design and implement relevant activities at district and kebele levels.

  3. Ensures the project activities in the different kebeles in all aspects of financial services, crop/fodder production, livestock development, and NRM are implemented affectively.

  4. Help strengthened small-scale private sector development in kebele by bringing new ideas and initiatives to project.

  5. Liaison with local government institutions, propose local capacity building programs to provide required services,

  6. Participate woreda levels coordination meetings with government line offices and kebele administrations and ensures that they have understood project approach and have up to date information about progress of project activities and impacts.

  7. Receives feedbacks, comments and inquiries from local government institutions and private sector actors and communities and then communicate to Project Coordinator and make sure they receive on time feedback and responses.

  8. Conducts flow up of project activities at his/her kebele levels,

  9. Develops and implements work plans to implement kebele level activities.

  10. Conducts her/himself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to Mercy Corps and to not jeopardize its humanitarian mission.

  11. Other duties as assigned.

  12. Participates in quarterly DREAMS coordination meetings,

  13. Camp based officer will also represent other projects from the Mercy corps.

Job Requirements

Knowledge and Experience

  • Experience in private sector and community are strongly preferred.

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Livestock, crop and NRM other related field,

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in working with other agencies in field level.

Success Factors

  • Fluent in English, and capable Somali language is strong benefit.

  • Great problem-solving skills, unafraid to ask questions, and results motivated.

  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and networking skills with a wide range of actors across geographical areas

  • Computer literate especially in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

  • Ability to foster solid working relationships with Government, beneficiary communities, and partner organizations.
