The Forests4Future (F4F) project is part of a global project to support the implementation of the AFR100 commitments of Ethiopia, Madagascar, Togo, Cameroon, Benin and Ivory cost.
The F4F Ethiopia project aims to rehabilitate the ecological and productive functions of degraded terrestrial ecosystems towards landscapes and forests, sustainable wood production, sustainable agriculture, mixed agroforestry systems and the rehabilitation of pastures and wetlands. It strengthens the resilience of entire landscapes and improves the well-being of populations.
The internship assignment is to give assistant to the project with particular emphasis on support in the monitoring of project activities (focus on remote sensing and drone image processing), data management and verification.
The internship will last for three months from 1st of May 2023 to 31st July 2023 with possible extension until 31st of October 2023
The tasks of the internship
Responsibilities
Monitoring
Collect and process geospatial data from all partners working with the project
Support in Drone image acquisition and processing
Support to the monitoring system (consisting of remote sensing, drone image processing and ground truthing)
Support the monitoring in data management and reporting,
Orthophoto development and biomass calculations
Verification of georeferenced data with GIS and on-site data
Compare and analyze data base
Assist the development of data and information collection templates and make Amharic translations whenever needed
Train, coach and guide the partners working with the project in georeferenced data acquisition and processing it into maps
Assess the status of the interventions upon request
Support the team in event organization, facilitation and coordination
Support in taking attendances and discussion minutes during trainings and events
Support the evaluation of trainings by the training participants
Support in some logistics arrangement as per the need from the technical and Admin & finance team
Support in availing and arranging training materials
Support bridging communication
Support in Amharic translations of verbal communication during events whenever needed
Support the team with drafting communication products
To work with the Programme according to needs and interests
To support the technical team in any other project assignment as per need
To contribute for the overall success of the project
Qualifications
college or university and be on their final year or have graduated no longer than 1 year ago from a bachelor’s or master’s degree at the time of application.
The candidate must have at least a B.Sc. in Forestry; Natural resource management, Agriculture, Rural Development, remote sensing, geography or other close related fields
Very good knowledge on GIS (preferably on QGiS)
Good analytical skills
Certificates on advanced GIS trainings is an asset
Very good Amharic and English language skill verbal and written
Interest in forest landscape restoration
Dedication to work in development cooperation
Stress tolerant and open minded
Strong knowledge of MS packages (Excel, Word, and other MS applications, organizational skills
Organized, high level of accuracy, and attention to detail
Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and being held accountable for meeting ambitious targets
