Overview of the position
The Director of Operations is part of the country management team and is responsible for providing operational support services in the country, to ensure the availability and quality of Human Resources, procurement, administration, logistics, IT, security & safety, and legal and to fully support SNV’s country operations.
Works closely with the Country Director to ensure timely and compliant implementation of HR, procurement and contracts, IT, security & safety, administration, and logistics operations. The position is responsible for the management and oversight of all government relationships, including reporting.
As a member of the CMT, responsible for the timely reporting of department activities.
Country operational delivery
Oversee the management of operations in Addis Ababa and three regional and five cluster offices. Ensure effective operations of all administrative and operational functions, compliance (internal and external) in the SNV offices, and effective support to all projects. This includes safe and reliable logistics and fleet management, procurement, asset management, inventory and warehouse management, ICT support, and legal.
People and leadership
Oversees implementation of HR policies in the country in consultation with the Human Resources Manager that guide, leads, inspires, develops, and motivates the workforce.
Risk Management
Serve as the liaison to legal counsel, and provide guidance to the Country Director and Country Manager Team on matters related to tax, insurance, labor laws, and business processes.
Procurement and Contracting
Management oversight of the procurement and contracting team for the country.
Government Liaison
Focal point with management oversight of government relations and operational approvals at national and regional levels.
Security & Safety Management
Acting as the Country Security Focal Point (SFP), develop and operationalize the Security Management Plan and guide the Risk Management Team to ensure the implementation, accuracy, and relevance of security planning. Monitors the safety and security environment, analyzes the context, reports incidents, provides briefings, and supports the security management of the country.
A seasoned professional with a master’s degree in a relevant discipline, such as operations/logistics management, public management, or international development with a combination of Management/Human Resource Management
Proven track record with over 10 years in leadership positions of which at least 7 years in managing professional teams.
Solid management experience in donor compliance, organizational risk management, contracting and procurement, project execution processes and security management.
Experience in project-based organizational models with multiple financing sources is desirable.
Clear communicator including writing skills in English.
A strong, insightful and influential leader who can drive processes in a decentralized, matrix environment.
Ability to operate at different levels and to translate strategy into action.
Strong people skills and willingness to provide hands-on support when needed.
Energetic, highly motivated, with an inquiring mind and passion for excellence and innovation in pursuit of business growth and success.
High integrity and openness combined with a commitment to good governance.
Willingness to travel to regional offices.
Additional Information
Contract Type: National/Local
Contract Duration: 1 year with the possibility of extension based on performance and Budget availability
