Performs anesthetic or sedation administration during medical procedures. Determines the type and method of anesthetic or sedation to render patient insensible to pain in consultation with other medical professionals. Records the type and amount of anesthetic and sedation administered and condition of patient before, during, and after anesthesia. . Directs General anesthesia (GA), Monitored Anesthesia Care(MAC/sedation) and regional anesthesia (local infiltration, spinal, epidural, caudal, peripheral nerve blocks). Also, Insertion of invasive lines (arterial lines, central venous catheters).

Duties and Responsibilities

• Administers General anesthesia (GA), Monitored Anesthesia Care(MAC/sedation) and regional anesthesia (local infiltration, spinal, epidural, caudal, peripheral nerve blocks)

• Insertion of invasive lines (arterial lines, central venous catheters).

• Leads and majorly involved in decision of patient admission to the ICU, management and discharge once patient completed treatment in the department

• Confers with other medical professionals to determine type and method of anesthesia or sedation to render patient insensible to pain.

• Coordinates administration of anesthesia with surgeons during operation.

• Records the type and amount of anesthesia and sedation administered and condition of patient before, during, and after anesthesia.

• Decides when patients have recovered or stabilized enough to be sent to another room or ward or to be sent home following outpatient surgery.

• Examines patient, obtains medical history and uses diagnostic tests to determine risk during surgical and other medical procedures.

• Monitors patient before, during and after anesthesia and counter act adverse reactions or complications.

• Positions patient on operating table and administers local, intravenous, spinal or other anesthetic according to prescribed medical standards.

• Institutes remedial measures to counter act adverse reactions or complications.

Minimum Specification Requirement

Educational Qualification and Work Experience

• Specialize in Anesthesiology

• At least 4 years’ experience as anesthesiologist and Critical Care Specialist

Knowledge and Skills Requirements

• Good knowledge in administering anesthesia and good communication skill

Working Conditions

• Require in shift work as the department schedule
