1. JOB SUMMARY

Under general supervision of the Department Head, Medical Director, the incumbent performs nursing duties ensuring efficient Service and client/patient care in accordance with accepted standard medical practice and professional codes of conduct.

2. Duties & Tasks

A) Inpatient and outpatient role / care

• Assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care plans in consultation with healthcare professionals.

• Monitor and record vital signs (Pulse, Blood Pressure, and Temperature).

• Monitor and recognize any untoward reaction of patient and report to Physician.

• Collect specimen (Blood, Sputum, Urine, etc.) order laboratory tests and record results.

• Provide Oxygen therapy and secretion suctions if required.

• Administer medications with an understanding of indications, dosage and side effects.

• Use aseptic techniques and precautions in wound care and dressings.

• Provide wound care including wound drainage emptying and removing sutures.

• Prepare equipment’s and assist the Doctors in various procedures .

• Assist bathing, and personal hygiene of patient .

• Assist patients to use various mobility aids like walkers and crutches.

• Set priorities according to the need of the unit and conditions of the patient.

• Give psychological support to the patient and family.

• Administers prescribed medications such as Oral, SC,IV routes and record changes and response of the patient

• Maintain good communication between patient's family and other medical team members.

• Educate parents about Preventive and Chronic disease management.

• Attend Health care team meetings and Conferences

• Provide frequent patient evaluations including monitoring vital signs and perform essential procedures.

• Monitor, analyses and record urine and stool output.

• Collect specimens including sputum,stool,urine and send it for medical analysis to laboratory.

• Analyze test results from various departments and record it properly.

• Assist doctors during treatment.

• Prepare the patient for various investigations like Ultra Sound, Echo, CT scan, MRI, Endoscopy,etc.

• Provide general nursing care to all patients.

• Give psychological support to the patient and family members.

• Educate patient and family about the disease and prognosis of the patient.

• Participate in service   nurse educational programmers conduct by the hospital

• Maintain skills and knowledge by participating various nurse education programs, seminars, staff meetings, workshops and other online nurse education programs.

• Adhering to best nursing practices standards & protocols

• Collaborating on discharge planning with the healthcare team

• Conduct post mortem care

B) Emergency and critical care role

• Prepare the unit and admission of the patient to Emergency Room/ER

• Evaluation and recording of patient's conditions.

• Assist in various procedures like Intubation, Chest Tube Insertion, Internal Jugular, Ryle’s Tube insertion and Foley's Catheter Insertion etc.

• Prepare the patient for various investigations like X-ray, ECG, Ultrasound ,MRI etc.

• Monitor vital signs and report to the physician.

• Administer medication and treatments as prescribed by the physician

• Collection

• Provide psychological support to the patient and relatives.

• Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in case of emergency situation

• Maintain barrier nursing techniques and prevent cross infection.

• Participate in emergency nurse certification trainings and other health service activities. 

C) ICU care role

• Bed side nursing care to assigned stable patients in the ICU unit based on basic assessment and evaluating the outcomes.

• Provide routine care for all patients admitted in ICU (daily bed bath etc.)

• Make intake and output chart after monitoring the fluid and electrolyte balance.

• Monitoring vital signs and report any deviation from normal to the concerned team leader.

• Carry out various procedures like tracheostomy, intubation etc.

• Administer medications and treatments to the patient as prescribed by the physician.

• Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in case of emergency situation.

• Conduct nursing interventions like wound drainage, catheterization and medication administration to delegated patient within the scope of practice

• Specimen collection and send to the laboratory for the test, record the results accurately.

• Must follow universal aseptic techniques.

• Adhere to the hospital policies to prevent infection and to ensure standard healthcare to the patients.

• Based on disease condition, communicate with the patient and family and give health educations

• Work as an effective member of the team to provide quality and safe patient care.

• Practice and participate quality improvement professional in-service programs.

• Conduct post mortem care

• If necessary, respond to a medical emergency and alert the appropriate doctors.

• Care for patient needs throughout their recovery in the ICU unit

D) Neonatal ICU role

• Attending births and providing care for infants directly after birth.

• Evaluating and overseeing the care of infants in the NICU.

• Monitoring the health of infants suffering from medical issues relating to birth, such as

• Prematurity or congenital defects.

• Performing tests and obtaining and evaluating the results.

• Providing treatment and administering medication as proscribed by the NICU physician..

• Running and maintaining the equipment in the NICU

• Educating new parents on the care of their new infant; for example, breastfeeding.

• Communicating with parents or guardians about the care and medical procedures related to their infant.

Job Requirements

1.       PERSON SPECIFICATIONS

A.     Qualification Requirements

1. Education:

• BSc Degree in Clinical Nursing

2. Experience:

One Year & Above

• In NICU / neonatal care

• As a Scrub or runner nurse

• As an Emergency, ICU and critical care Nurse

B.      Skills, Attitudes and Attributes

• Collaborative approach to team working;
