Job Description

Department of Psychiatry, School of Medicine, College of Health Sciences, Addis Ababa University is working in collaboration with the African Mental heAlth Research Initiative (AMARI), supported by the Wellcome Trust through the Development of Excellence in Leadership Training and Science (DELTAS) programme.

Purpose: This funding opportunity is to enable Ethiopians to develop excellence in leadership, training and science in the area of research into mental, neurological and substance use disorders.

PhD fellowships

  • Three AMARI PhD fellowships will be available for 2023

  • The prospective candidates will register on the PhD in mental health epidemiology programme, Addis Ababa University

  • Research support will be provided for 4 years

Eligibility: Prospective candidates must be medically qualified with specialist training or have at least a Masters degree (with thesis) in Mental Health, Public Health, Biostatistics, Psychology, Social Work or another health-related field

Post-doctoral fellowships

  • One AMARI Post-doctoral fellowship will be available for 2023

  • Research support will be provided for up to 2 years

  • The AMARI post-doc fellow will be expected to apply for independent grant funding

Eligibility: PhD in mental health or relevant health-related or social science field and at least two peer-reviewed publications in a reputable journal

The research support includes a monthly stipend, funds to support expenses essential for the research, support to attend the annual AMARI scientific meeting and training courses, local and international research supervisors.

For applicants to the AMARI PhD and post-doc fellowships, the following will be an advantage: proven track record of research involvement, experience in mental health or neurological care, and peer reviewed publications in reputable journals.
