Job Description

Background:

John Snow, Inc. (JSI) is a public health management firm, headquartered in the United States, dedicated to improving the health of individuals and communities throughout the world. JSI has been implementing public health work in Ethiopia for over 25 years.

JSI is implementing the five-year Digital Health Activity in Ethiopia, which is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The purpose of this Activity is to support the Government of Ethiopia (GOE) to improve the quality of health services and create a sustainable healthcare system through the use of data for decision-making. The primary objectives of the Activity are to 1) support information technology systems and data repositories at all levels; 2) build a culture of data use; and 3) improve capacity and governance of MOH health information systems management.

DHA seeks to hire a Business Development and Strategic Information Advisor who will be responsible mainly for offering high-level Business development services for Ethiopia projects as well as global digital health efforts. The position holder is also responsible for producing high level quality reports and support in the review and acceptance of copy edited reports and ensure reports follow donor’s requirements.

Key Responsibilities;

●   Carry out research for proposals (either operational or programmatic research); 

●  Assembles relevant background documents, references and reports necessary for developing business proposal

●  Coordinates Fund applications as they are made available and announced

●  Reviews and provide input on Funding Request form, including programmatic gap analysis; various assumptions; financial resource mapping and funding gap breakdown

●  Contributes to drafting the Funding Request

●  Participates in country dialogue on prioritized interventions for Funding Request; Capture the outputs of the country dialogue and Decisions.

●  Incorporate feedback from the stakeholders and core writing team into the Funding Request.

●  Oversee the technical quality of the Funding Request; and adherence to agreed timelines and key processes

●   Present the grant priority interventions & budgets for review and approval

●   Write and/or assist with narrative sections of proposals; 

●   Drafts proposal budgets; Develop tables, matrices;

●    Coordinates overarching proposal logistics; 

●  Prepare proposal documentation and packaging documents for final formatting and submission.

●  Recruit staff to fill proposal positions; 

●  Editing, revising and rewriting, as needed, to produce high quality, timely, results-based DHA reports

●  Prepare specific report-related feedback to program leads and support to improve impact focused reporting

●  Support in the review and acceptance of copy edited reports and ensure reports follow donor’s requirements

● Work closely with the strategic information team to produce high quality materials that meet the highest possible communication standards (Success stories, model practices, briefs etc.)

●  Contribute to capacity development efforts for staff to produce quality reports and other communication materials

●  Conducts field visits to ensure data quality and data use among DHA staff

●  Supports data analysis and visualization efforts of DHA by closely working with other teams

●  Ensures action points following quarterly review meetings are implemented 

●  Performs all other related tasks when assigned

Job Requirements

Qualifications Required:

●   Bachelor’s degree with more than 15 years of experience or Master’s degree with 10 years of experience in the areas of Public health, Health System Strengthening, and other relevant disciplines

●  Ten or more years of experience working in the field of public health–specifically in health system Strengthening, digital health, and/or health programs.

●  Experience in new business development, including both strategy development and proposal writing for different donors and donor agencies.

●  Experience in producing high level and quality donor reports.

●  Strategic thinker about the implementation of programs. Proven ability in strategy planning, development, and oversight of multiple concurrent projects.

●  High level report writing skill

●   Strong representational and interpersonal, communication skills.

●   Must have strong writing skills in both English and Amharic.

●   Fluency in written and verbal English and Amharic.

●   Excellent computer skills, specifically in Windows, Word, Excel, and Google Suite.
