Job Description

Tetra Tech Inc. is working on USAID-Ethiopia’s Engineering Services and Construction Oversight – Phase III (ESCO-III) project. The project includes providing engineering services and oversight for health facilities, warehouses, rural & urban water supply and sanitation (WASH) facilities, and similar.

Tetra Tech Inc. is currently seeking expressions of interest for an Accountant to work on a USAID-funded project under ESCO-III. The successful candidate will work with a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and other administration team, and thus an inquisitive mind, who have an excellent interpersonal skill and able to create a supportive working relationship among all project team members, are desirable.

Women candidates are strongly encouraged to apply for this position. The Accountant will be responsible for the following activities: 

  • Manage local spending and expenses, i.e., document all financial transactions by recording account information

  • Secure financial information by completing database backups.

  • Verify, allocate, post, and reconcile transactions.

  • Responsible for keeping up to date financial records and ensuring that documents/reports/guidelines/ Audit files are stored in an appropriate manner

  • Responsible for proper processing of vendor invoices, travel advances and expense reports

  • Assist with monitoring vendor outstanding items, taking corrective follow-up actions where required; manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, monthly reconciliations, journal entries, month-end close.

  • Assist in the preparation of budgets, accounting and financial reports, funds requests, statistical and other reports as required; support month-end and year-end closing process

  • Assist with all bookkeeping, bank accounts and case flow to ensure sufficient funds are available for effective and efficient implementation; summarize financial statements from time-to-time, as required.

  • Collect and evaluate quotes for purchases as required

  • Prepare payroll on a monthly basis for review

  • Make payments for applicable taxes to the relevant authorities

  • Coordinate requests for VAT reimbursement per the established procedure.

  • Provide technical support and advice on management.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Report to Office Manager and Chief of Party (COP)

Job Requirements

Essential educational, experience, and competency requirements are:

Applicant must be Ethiopian:

  • Hold a Bachelor Degree or equivalent in finance, administration, business, or a relevant field

  • Five (5) to eight (8) years of experience in an equivalent position. Experience working in a similar position with NGO (donor-funded projects), business or international organizations is required.

  • Excellent accounting software user and administration skills; experience using QuickBooks accounting software preferred

  • Knowledge of US government regulations for USAID direct contracts

  • Self-driven and result oriented 

  • Tactfulness and enthusiasm for the job. Good human relation skills, integrity, and ability to work under pressure. 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Package

  • Proficiency in English, both oral and written

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
