Tetra Tech Inc. is working on USAID-Ethiopia’s Engineering Services and Construction Oversight – Phase III (ESCO-III) project. The project includes providing engineering services and oversight for health facilities, warehouses, rural & urban water supply and sanitation (WASH) facilities, and similar.

Tetra Tech Inc. is currently seeking expressions of interest for a Senior Architect to work on a USAID-funded project under ESCO-III and support the WASH and Facility & Infrastructure Programs. The successful candidate will work with a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and thus an inquisitive mind, solid technical background in Architecture & Engineering (A&E), and knowledge of general construction practices with a strong desire to apply A&E principles to unique and complex engineering projects are desirable.

Women candidates are strongly encouraged to apply for this position. The Senior Architect will be responsible for the following activities:

  • Assemble architectural documents from schematic through construction, field surveys and as-builts 

  • Developing design concepts and creating preliminary sketches for new buildings or renovations to existing structures

  • Preparing construction plans, specifications, cost estimation for buildings and other structures 

  • Reviewing blueprints and construction documents to ensure compliance with engineering codes, standards, and Health & Safety regulations 

  • Working with multi-disciplinary team of engineers to ensure that designs meet structural, environmental, and other requirements

  • Ensure planning/design consider environmental aspects to reduce impacts

  • Act as Design Manager for Rehabilitation Activities by creating design schedule identifying resources, and then coordinating design work among engineering disciplines

  • Provide predesign figures such as an environmental impact, feasibility study, cost analysis, etc.…

  • Provide technical input and support resolution of technical issues that may be raised on study, design, construction, and other related issues to help improve the designs/construction. 

  • Upon USAID’s request, review study and design documents submitted by implementing partners/contractors and prepare feedback and recommendations for the Program Manager’s review

  • Prepare reviews and value engineering designs.

  • Serve as a point of contract for technical issues with architectures and the function

  • Perform periodic site visits to project sites

  • Ensure that all projects are completed on time and meet client satisfaction levels

  • Participate in meetings and workshops, as required 

  • Other duties assigned by the Chief of Party or Facilities and Infrastructure Programs Manager 

  • Reports to the Facilities and Infrastructure Programs Manager.

Job Requirements

Essential Educational, Experience, and Competency Requirements are:

  • Applicant must be Ethiopian

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in architecture (Master’s degree preferred) 

  • Ethiopian Practitioner/Professional Architect License, or eligibility for license

  • Minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible architectural experience with public facility renovation design, site development, and collaboration with multi-discipline engineers; experience with health care facility design and construction is highly desirable

  • Relevant design and site supervision experience, preferably on USAID or donor-funded construction activities

  • Experience in project management and coordination including team management 

  • Experience working with detail building technical specification.

  • Ethiopian relevant license/certification 

  • Expert knowledge of applicable codes and standards

  • In-depth understanding of CAD, AutoCAD software and familiarity with other design software 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Package

  • Proficiency in English, both oral and written

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
