Médecins du Monde (MDM) is operating in Ethiopia since 1986 in different types of health projects. MDM–France invites qualified candidates to apply for the following position:

Duty station: Ethiopia, Tigray Region -Axum - Ahasea

Employment Term: 3 Months with possibility of extension

Job Summary

The medical supervisor will play a vital role within MDM’s functioning. She/he will carry out supervison activates  in the field. He/she will be base in Axum and work under the direct supervision of Health program manager

Essential duties and responsibilities.

Under the supervision of the Health program manager, the Medical Supervisor will be responsible for the following main activities:

• Supervise the day-to-day activities of Ahesea and D/hama HC

• Act as focal point for the clinic in the field

• Providing technical and operational support to the supported Health facilities

• Management and leadership of Clinic team

• Collection and analysis of health & pharmaceutical data

• Supporting the development of coherent project implementation strategy

• Reporting and attendance to different meetings

• Manage Community mobilizer

• Liaise with Health Program Manager to ensure the delivery of quality SRH, CMAM, PHC services to the target population

Task Description

Providing technical support to  clinic staff

• Train HCW staff on medical protocols including hygiene protocols

• Ensure use and respect of medical protocols through observation and supervision of medical and paramedics staff

• Implement regular on-the-job trainings and supportive supervision according to a weekly/monthly schedule

• Train and supervise HEW working in health post areas

• Establish mechanisms of providing regular weekly/monthly feedback on statistics and health activities to Clinic Staff

• Participate in establishing/improving referral system

• Supervise drugs stock management in collaboration with the health facility pharmacist

• Work in close collaboration with the MDM Health Program manager to ensure comprehensive on-the-job training for each of the specialities: SRH, PHC, EPI, Nutrition, LAB,

• Oversee and support the implementation of best practices introduced by HPM and MedCo

Operational Management of Clinic team

• Act as focal point for liaison with community leaders and representatives in clinic area of operation

• Lead on coordination with other actors, including UN, INGO and GoN, in clinic area of operation

• Provide regular, timely updates to Health Programme Coordinator

• Organize the weekly schedule of the MdM team to ensure the smooth running of the activities

• Provide strong leadership to ensure MdM field staff understand and work according to MdM principles

Collection and analysis of health  & pharmaceutical data

• Ensure  the implementation of data collection protocols, working closely with the MEAL and HPC

• Monitor the drugs consumption by establishing/maintaining mechanisms of consumption record and inform the Health Program Coordinator and Pharmacist in case of any unusual consumption, or stock shortage

• Identify and rectify gaps or weaknesses in medical activities by using monitoring and supervision tools

• Ensure rapid communication of suspect communicable disease to HPC

Developing coherent project implementation strategy

• Assist in preparing and implementing operational action plan component in collaboration with MdM coordination team

• Assist in the implementation of the project activities in collaboration with MdM coordination team

• Assist MdM Health Program Coordinator and MdM medical coordinator in preparing data collection tools as well as medical and paramedics protocols

Reporting and attendance to different meetings

• Prepare a weekly activities report to submit to the health program manager

• Compile epidemiological reports for inclusion in medical reports or any other relevant reports

• Support the pharmacist to compile drug consumption report per month

• Participate in a pro-active way to MdM internal meetings (medical, security…)

Other

• Establish good relationship with the different stakeholders in order to have a smooth implementation of MdM project

• Be flexible in performing his/her duties to ensure that beneficiaries are getting good quality services

• Inform immediately the security focal point in case of any security problem in the field

• Perform other additional duties on request of the health program manager and coordination team

Because of the emergency relief nature of MDM’s work, working hours may be irregular and employees are expected to be flexible in their approach to working hours under emergency conditions. 

He/she works under the supervision of the health program manager. The employee shall respect Médecins du Monde - France’s schedule and Terms and Conditions of Engagement for National Staff and is expected to be available anytime in order to answer to an emergency situation and be flexible and available beyond normal working hours if requested.

Educational Qualification

• Medical Doctor  

Work Experience

• At least 2 years’ experience in similar positions in humanitarian context

• Experience in working with international humanitarian organizations is a plus

• Female’s candidates are highly encouraged to apply

Personal Skills and qualities required

• Excellent supervision skill.

• Essential experienced in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

•  Strong organizational skills in emergency situations and autonomous in daily operations

• Good communication and interpersonal skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution skills

• Strong organizational and team working skills.

• Ability to work under pressure and with limited supervision.
