POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position:                     TB Coordinator for Cluster Woreda

Reports to:                Regional Project Coordinator

Duration :                  6 Months       

Location:                    In selected woredas of Tigray
The USAID Eliminate TB Project is a five-year USAID-funded project to reduce TB incidence and mortality by improving the quality, access, utilization, and sustainability of TB services in Ethiopia. This project builds on the work of previous USAID activities (Challenge TB, HEAL TB, TB Care, and others) that have been supporting the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Program (NTLP) to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) and STOP TB milestones. The Project support focuses on improving access and utilization to quality and patient-centered comprehensive TB services.

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES

The clustered Woredas TB Coordinator serves as a technical TB expert for the USAID Eliminate TB project support in her/his assigned clustered woredas. S/he serves as a technical expert who will provide capacity building and technical support to the clustered Worda Health Offices (WrHOs) and catchment health facilities in the assigned clustered woredas. The clustered woreda TB Coordinator will work closely work with the respective woreda health offices and their health facilities, RHB and USAID Eliminate TB regional team. He/she will also represent the project in the cluster woreda. S/he will participate and coordinate the woreda level trainings, Supervisions, and organize program review meetings, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the TBL program..

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop close working relationships with WrHO, Woreda DPC case team, and Health facilites and other stakeholders in the ssigned cluster woredas that have responsibility for strengthening and improving tuberculosis prevention and control program.  

  • Adapt existing procedures in place and capacitate the woreda disease prevention  and control experts to meet the needs of the woreda TB prevention and control program in consultation with the woreda disease prevention and control (DPC) coordinators.

  • S/he will serve as a technical advisor to provide technical support for the WrHOs and health facility teams to ensure improved TB case finding and treatment outcome in the woredas,

  • S/he will support the woredas in organizing and coordinating woreda level review meetings, trainings, and regular supportive supervisions,

  • S/he will conduct/coordinate regular supervision for HFs which require more support including high load HFs/Hospitals, MDR TB TFCs, etc.

  • S/he will assist the Woreda DPC coordinators in the capacity building activities of the DPC experts in the WrHOs and TB focal persons in health facilities,

  • Work with the WrHOs to effectively address operational challenges for TB case finding and treatment including accessing key population, new diagnostics and new TB drug supplies  in collaboration with the Woredas DPC coordinators  

  • Provide technical assistance to develop woreda context strategies on TB prevention, diagnosis and treatment including, TB case finding, Contact screening  and TB preventive therapy (TPT), DR TB and childhood TB , TB infection prevention control (IPC), TB/HIV, and LTFU tracing .

  • Facilitate and support in the provision of sample transportation system including follow up with testing and  ensure result delivery. As alternative of option, s/he will collect and transport samples.

  • Strengthen and participate in the woreda TB, TB/HIV and other TB-related technical working group (TWG) or task forces (TF).

  • S/he will ensure availability and utilization of TBL R & R tools/aids, assist the woreda in data collection, compilation, reporting, analysis and utilization for local decision-making with woreda data encoder or HMIS.

  • Advocate for COVID-19 and TB infection prevention, diagnosis, treatment and vaccination.

  • Undertake other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.              

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

  • BSc nurse or health officer in health sciences field from a recognized university. MPH is an advantage.  

  • Capacity on motor bike riding with a valid motor bike riding license is a must.

  • 4+ years of work experience in the region for Bsc nurs or Health officers; 2+ years experience for MPH professionals.

  • Experience with TB program is an advantage.

  • Previous experience with USAID or other USG funded projects is an advantage,

  • Excellent communication, and interpersonal skills, demonstrated leadership, and the ability to work collaboratively with culturally diverse partners.

  • Computer literacy; competency with Microsoft Office, internet, and email systems.

  • Fluency in written and spoken English is required.

  • Ability to work independently as well as in collaboration with colleagues and partners.

  • Willingness to work and understands about TB in conflict areas

  • Willingness to travel frequently (at least 60 % time) within the cluster woredas.
