Job Description

PATH in Ethiopia is currently implementing various high impact projects with the aim of saving and improving the lives of the most vulnerable and under-served women and children in the country.
PATH is planning to undertake a study: National Assessment on COVID-19 response in Ethiopia: Experiences, Lessons, and Future Directions. PATH will lead the data collection activities in collaboration and coordination with the Federal Ministry of Health, expanded program on immunization (EPI).
PATH has received a grant from the USAID to assess the COVID-19 response in Ethiopia.
This project will generate evidence on the effort of the country to mitigate the pandemic and how the COVID-19 response be integrated with the routine functions of the health system in the country.
The study has been reviewed and approved by the EPHI IRB and data collection is anticipated in May 2023. Data collection will happen at each level of the health system in the study regions. To support assessment activities, the supervisors will work closely with the research and evaluation advisors and data collectors.
Specific parameters of the position include:
Level of effort: High level of effort (LOE) is anticipated during this engagement and the supervisor is expected to be fully available to attend all days of the training of data collectors, travel to the assigned region to supervise the data collection activity for up to a total of 20 days (including travel) and continue to remotely supervise data collection activities till the end of data collection period.
Specific duties and responsibilities:
The study supervisor will be working closely with research and monitoring advisor, and data manager to supervise the data collectors during data collection and ensure that data collection activity is completed successfully. As need, the supervisor may also be asked to lead some sections of the data collector training. The study supervisor responsibilities for this assignment are outlined as:
Key duties and responsibilities.
Support the continued work and implementation of the national assessment on COVID-19 response.
Fully participate in the training of data collectors and be available fully for the 3-day training that is planned. Get to know the data collection tools and intent of the questions, to be able to help and guide data collectors when data collection begins.
During data collection period, coordinate the data collection process in the assigned region and with the assigned data collection teams, to ensure timely completion of the data collection activities.
During data collection, inform each stakeholder in the assigned region and site.
Serve as the primary contact for the data collectors assigned to you and coordinate and resolve any logistics related issues during data collection and escalate any issues you cannot resolve to the assessment research advisor and PI.
Travel to assessment regions and data collection sites as required to supervise data collection in the assigned region and for the agreed upon duration of this direct supervision. Continue to provide remote supervision and facilitation even after this period of direct in person supervision.
Conduct checks of the data quality for the teams being supervised during data collection and communicate with the data collection team on any issues flagged and communicate with the advisor PI.
Work with the data collection teams to finalize the data collection activity in the assigned region and ensure that all data are collected and availed to the study team.
Attend supervisor meetings and communicate with the assessment PI and Research advisor and provide progress updates.
Duration of employment: 20 days with possibility of extension
Duty Station: At woredas in Addis Ababa, Amhara, Oromia, Somali, Gambella.

Job Requirements
Qualification:
Advanced degree in public health, epidemiology, medicine, or related field.
Relevant work experience in public health with strong skill and knowledge in the field of immunization particularly in provision of technical assistance to the public sector.
Experience in both qualitative and quantitative data collection,
Experience on providing supervision activities in the field for data collectors.
Ability and commitment to inform appropriate persons/organizations of potential or existing risks/problems during data collection period.
Knowledge on the local language where the study will be conducted is a plus.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other information processing software.
Hands on experience on data collection and use of electronical device like ODK
Full availability to engage in data collectors training and during data collection period.
