BACKGROUND & PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT

WFP’s activities include food assistance for relief, school feeding, safety nets, nutrition, and food assistance for asset creation through the provision of in-kind and cash-based transfers. The Person with Disability Internship Programme is a learning opportunity aimed at attracting young and talented candidates across the country. The program will provide selected candidates with the opportunity to supplement their academic knowledge with practical work assignments in a field related to the work of WFP. This will promote a better understanding of WFP Ethiopia’s mandate and programs. Similarly, the program will provide WFP with qualified individuals specializing in relevant fields in line with WFP’s Strategic Objectives and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  • Under the guidance of the Head of Gender, Protection, and Conflict Sensitivity team; support all pillars in the inclusion of all cross-cutting elements into the project management cycle.  

  • Provide adequate support to enhance an inclusive and gender-sensitive response in all program activities by sharing guidance, conducting awareness raising, supporting partner organizations and WFP teams in conducting barrier analysis subsequent and plans to remove barriers to services.

  • Support the drafting of recommendations and reviewing tools to ensure gender, protection, AAP, Disability Inclusion and Conflict Sensitivity in the country’s monitoring framework aiming to ensure the collection of gender, age, and disability disaggregated data as set out by the IASC and WFP internal guidelines.

  • Contribute to the development of program-specific analysis/assessment and propose innovative solutions to enhance the mainstreaming of cross-cutting issues as relevant for all CSP activities.

  • Actively participate and raise awareness in the Disability Working Group; the IAAWG, Protection Cluster, PSEA Network, GBV AOR, and other interagency coordination mechanisms to ensure the integration of cross-cutting issues in humanitarian actions/responses by featuring WFP’s representation and contribution.

  • Represent WFP’s priorities in national advocacy initiatives putting the cross-cutting lens, especially gender, protection, AAP and disability inclusion in Ethiopia.

  • Collaborative work with the pillar leads and local partnerships and/or consortium with NGOs, on technical priorities and important topics under all cross-cutting scope.

  • Within Gender, Protection, AAP, conflict sensitivity, AAP and disability team, compile data and support analysis and preparation of reports (e.g., food assistance needs, resource utilization, program status, performance) to support operational decision-making.

  • Any other tasks as assigned by the head of the Unit. Represent WFP’s priorities in national advocacy initiatives putting the cross-cutting lens, especially gender, protection, AAP and disability inclusion in Ethiopia.
