Emory University Ethiopia is a registered foreign charities organization and operating in Ethiopia since 2011.Emory University has been implementing cross-cutting strategies that focus on strengthening partnerships with local as well as key international agencies. Through this structure, we create stronger community-based and facility-based solutions coupled with advocacy both at the national and regional level. Specifically, we've focused on Community and facility Maternal, Newborn and Child Health, Nutrition and Hygiene/Sanitation through Implementation research, capacity building, prevention/education and system strengthening.

Currently, Emory University secured a one-year Emergency Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) project for conflict affected areas of Afar and Amhara as well as drought affected Borena Zone of Oromia region.

Emory University Ethiopia is seeking qualified candidate for the open post seen below.

Job Summary:

The Emergency MNCH Project Coordinator will work under the direct supervision of the Deputy Country Director in Addis Ababa. S/he will play coordination and representation role for the Emory University Ethiopia Emergency MNCH project in response to emergency need to the conflict affected areas of Amhara and Afar regions as well as drought affected Borena Zone of Oromia region. S/he will work together with other program coordinators, field office coordinators, project coordinators, program quality coordinator and represent the Emory University on regular emergency response cluster and coordination meetings to be held in Addis Ababa and regional levels, government offices and other relevant stakeholders to ensure Emory University’s extensive MNCH emergency response interventions responding in the target areas are going smooth. II.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Develop annual, quarter and monthly action plans and submits to the Deputy Country Director 

  • Support the Field office and project officers in representing Emory University at regional/Zonal level and share key MNCH and emergency program related updates and challenges for relevant stakeholders as per the interest of Emory University. 

  • Together with technical program staffs, contribute to ensure projects are implemented as planned and within budget duration, and in accordance with the Emory University MNCH and emergency response policies and guidelines. 

  • Maintain a regular communication with relevant staffs. 

  • Maintain a good partnership with regional government bureaus and other partners in the intervention areas.

  • Participate in working groups, meetings, etc. that have a relevance to Emory University Emergency projects. 

  • Contribute to the creation of a positive image and overall credibility of the Emory University at regional levels. 

  • Build and maintain relationships with key partners and decision-makers in the government, and among local authorities. 

  • Ensure timely signature of emergency project Sub-Agreements, MOUs, and any other relevant agreements among partners and government signatories at regional level.

  • Participate in grants opening meetings to understand the concept of the respective humanitarian and emergency program. 

  • Prepare and share regular progress reports for donors and government signatories based on the compliances.

  • Responsible for efficient utilization and management of emergency project resources (Financial, human and material) 

  • Maintain good team spirit and work relation with staffs, funding partners and target groups. 

  • Design, develop and submit emergency related project concept notes and proposals by collecting relevant data and information. 

  • Carry out other tasks assigned by the Deputy Country Director.

Working Conditions and Level of Travel Required Terms of employment:

Full time for one year with the possibility of extension based on the performance and budget availability

Duty station: Addis Ababa,

Level of Travel: frequent field travel to the regions and woredas of project emergency site

Job Requirements

Basic Qualifications: 

Education:

  • Post graduate degree in public health, Nurse and related fields. 

  • 5 years of relevant experience

  • Significant experience in emergency MNCH response program/project management. 

  • NGO experience is a plus. Additional

Qualifications: 

  • Previous experience in implementing program in the area of maternal, Newborn and child health;

  • Experience in organizing and conducting trainings and mentoring; 

  • Demonstrated experience in good communication with key stakeholder (community leaders, local government and donors) for effective implementation of the project

  • Must have good communication skill (both verbal and written) of English. 

  • Word processing ( MS Word, Spreadsheet ( Excel), power point and Internet; 

  • Able to work well horizontally and vertically with others; 

  • Negation skills 

  • Self-driven, independent, and motivated 

  • Able to contribute to and follow the project planning in efficient and timely matters
