Job Description

I. Overview 

USAID Ethiopia Support Program (ESP) aims to provide pathways to a more democratic and stable Ethiopia by building an enabling environment for peaceful and inclusive consensus building processes. To this end, ESP works to strengthen intra- and inter-group relationships and actions and advance inclusive and constructive public discourse. Dexis Consulting Group is USAID’s implementing partner for ESP.

The Gender Integration Consultant will be stationed at ESP’s office in Addis Ababa and reports to the Chief of Party. This job is a short-term technical assistance (STTA) for maximum of 2 (two) months employment contract, subject to long-term renewal based on performance and availability of funding. This position starts immediately upon hire.

II. Tasks and Responsibilities  

§  Identify and analyze the primary barriers facing the participation and engagement of women in ESP activities.

§  Provide recommendations and best practices for how to navigate the barriers facing women's participation based on USAID’s Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Policy of 2023.

§  Identify opportunities during the activity cycle (design, implementation, or M&E) where ESP can improve the recruitment, participation, and engagement of women.

§  Lead two interactive and tailored training workshops for ESP staff and ESP partners on the importance of women's engagement in the political and peacebuilding space and the navigation of barriers to women's participation. 

§  Identify networks between ESP staff, grantees, and women-led organizations that can support or participate in programing across target areas.

§  Draft guidance for ESP and partners to better integrate gender considerations into programming. 

            III. Reporting 

This position will report to the Chief of Party or designee. 

Job Requirements

IV. Qualifications  

§  Bachelor’s degree or equivalent university degree in a relevant field. 

§  At least five years of relevant experience working on gender-related issues in Ethiopia.  

§  Demonstrated experience supporting programs involving community-level engagement, gender issues, and peacebuilding.

§  Ability to perform project monitoring and evaluation.  

§  Experience living and working in Ethiopia

§  Strong written and oral communication skills

§  Fluency in written and spoken English and Amharic

§  Experience working with local organizations to implement gender-sensitive activities.

§  Experience with USAID-funded projects preferred
