Job Description
The PR&C Officer is responsible to provide communication and Public Relations tasks for positioning the Centre as a strong brand for environmental causes in the Horn of Africa region.
The position calls for a creative, innovative thinker with excellent written and verbal communication skills while maintaining high journalistic standards of accuracy and integrity. The Senior PR&C Officer will bring a fresh perspective on ways to gain media/social media attention, be well versed on the latest ICT trends and technology and will commit to collaborating with partners.
Plans and executes the communication activities of the Centre and network in collaboration with coordinators
Facilitates and requests for content /articles from relevant personnel;
Disseminates accurate, timely and credible information to relevant programmes and partners;
Writes news releases, speeches, articles for distribution to the media as required
Supports the compilation, editing and publication of newsletter of the Centre following approval of the Editorial Team
Oversees the compilation, editing and publication of newsletter of the Centre(online and hardcover)
Oversees the maintenance and improvement of the HoA-REC/N website for content and visibility
Posts information on the Centre’s website following approval of the Editorial Team
Works hand in hand with the Executive office, Network/Partnership, ICT team, and programme coordinators to create a proactive communications programme that supports the strategic objectives of HoA-REC/N
Promotes HoA-REC/N at international conferences and forums
Guides all forms of communications (electronic, press, printed materials, etc…) from the Centre and Network
Undertakes all other related duties as may be required and assigned
Education: MA in Journalism, Communications, Literature or relevant field of studies.
Courses/training in creative and technical writing, public speaking, advertising and public affairs is an asset.
Experience: 8 or more years of proven work experience in an NGO or donor funded projects in a field directly related to communications and media relations
Required skills/Technical Proficiency:
Professional writing skills both in local and English language
Verbal communication and public speaking skills
Using web content management systems/web updating
Graphics and photo imaging tools
shooting and editing video and audio
Leveraging social media channels to achieve maximum exposure
Excellent time management and organizational skills
Language: Proficiency in the English language and knowledge of Arabic and/or French is essential.
Duty station: Addis Ababa and it may require occasional travel
