Duration of contract: Indefinite based on performance and availability of funds

Since 2003, we have marketed products and led programs to prevent HIV, improve reproductive health including access to modern contraception for the 15-19 years old adolescents, and improve child health. We market condoms and increase condom use among people most at risk of HIV. We increase access to clean water by selling Wuha Agar, a water disinfectant. At PSI/Ethiopia we do more than simply provide products and services, we seek to create true change by making markets work for the poor to increase the use of critical health products and services that are available, affordable, and desirable to the most vulnerable Ethiopian people.

We are looking for a Program Manager to oversee innovative projects targeting 15-19 year old married adolescent girls. Primary responsibility will be to manage and oversee the pilot of Smart Pathways, a new intervention package designed to improve MNCH knowledge and behaviors among pregnant and soon-to-be pregnant married adolescents. The Program Manager will be responsible for all aspects of program delivery, monitoring, and improvement. This role will require strong collaboration with PSI/E field teams to ensure smooth implementation of the pilot amidst competing priorities. To succeed in this role, the selected candidate will need to be smart, pragmatic, and able to apply both program management and design thinking.  

The Program Manager will also be responsible for , working in partnership with young people and applying Human Centered Design (HCD) mindsets and processes. He/She will have an active role in nurturing innovative ideas while co-designing solutions with young people, testing new ideas to advance the health of people in Ethiopia, and ensuring that program design reflects the needs and realities of our target audience. This role will work closely with a variety of stakeholders, including regional and local government representative, married adolescent girls, young designers, and other PSI staff to iterate and improve program design.

Your contribution

You will work under the supervision of the RISE Director and will also work closely with HCD team and operations team. More specifically, you will:

  • Oversee the program implementation, including budget and compliance oversight

  • Develop and apply an adaptive implementation framework for the pilot to ensure girls voices are at the center through implementation

  • Share learnings of the project and manage project budget  

  • Work closely with the evaluation partner (if relevant) and the A360 AMPLIFY global team

  • Lead work plan preparation, and review and track performance through continuous project quality improvements

  • Ensure responsiveness to donors, the Government of Ethiopia and stakeholders on programmatic matters

  • Produce periodic reports of the project as needed for internal and external stakeholders.

  • Document program progress, including lessons learned and success stories.

  • provide hands on technical and operational support  to field teams, HEWs, health care providers at PHCUs,

  • Strengthen collaboration and coordination especially between health posts and primary healthcare units by amplifying the needs of married adolescents and leverage all opportunities to enhance the uptake of ANC, skill delivery, PNC and PPF among married adolescents.

  • Collect, analyze and translate performance data to inform decisions and course correct.

  • In collaboration with the SRH leadership design context tailored scale up and operational modalities

Job Requirements

Your background

  • First Degree or higher in Public Health, SRH, Population Studies, Social Sciences, International Development or related field.

  • At least six years of experience implementing projects.

  • Experience on adolescents and youth focused programs.

  • Demonstrated ability to follow deadlines and deliver under stressful situation without compromising quality is required.

  • Ability to work with a very innovative and dynamic type of program and comfortable with ambiguity.

  • Experience with partnership development, budget and project management is desirable.

  • Demonstrated strategic ability, solve problem, team building, and negotiation skills is highly desirable.

  • Demonstrated interpersonal, writing and oral presentation skills in English and other local languages to fulfill the diverse technical and managerial requirements of the project.

  • Willingness to travel up to 25% time away from head office.
