Job Summary

Laboratory analysts are professionals who perform tasks such as conducting tests and analyzing the results, maintaining work spaces and preparing experiments.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Daily duties for laboratory analysts vary based on the type of industry they work in and the materials processed by the hiring lab. However, there are several universal job tasks associated with this career that are the same for all laboratory analysts in all industries:

  • Design and execute laboratory testing according standard procedures, make observations and interpret findings

  • Organize and store all chemicals substances, fluids and compressed gases according to safety instructions

  • Record all data and results in specified forms (paper and electronic) with accuracy and responsibility

  • Maintain equipment and assist in ordering laboratory supplies

  • Ensure that all safety guidelines are followed strictly at all times and maintain a clean and orderly environment

  • Set Up Equipment

  • Laboratory analysts set up test equipment in the lab to complete specific procedures.

  • Perform Tests

  • Laboratory analysts perform complex chemical tests on materials and samples as requested or assigned.

  • Analyze Data

  • They diligently log and analyze the data revealed by lab tests.

  • Laboratory analysts manage inventory supplies by keeping track of materials used and ordering new items as needed.

  • Maintain Lab Equipment

  • Laboratory analysts perform maintenance on lab equipment by making calibrations, cleaning equipment, replacing parts, and otherwise keeping equipment functioning properly. They also troubleshoot lab equipment to spot problems and report issues to the lab supervisor.

  • Adhere to Safety Regulations

  • Laboratory analysts follow safety standards and protocols at all times in regards to safe handling of materials and wearing proper protective equipment.

  • Laboratory analysts keep laboratory and work areas clean and organized.

  • Use R rules (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Rethink, etc) to avoid or minimize discharges to water, emissions to air and disposal to land.

  • Ensure sustainably use the natural resources such as water, raw materials, energy and other resources.

  • Implement, document, maintain and continually improve the Environmental Management System (ISO 14001:2015).

  • Properly handle, and use hazardous materials and wastes.

  • Retain list of chemicals used and control them as per their material safety data sheet, legal and client requirements.

  • Determine environmental aspects and impacts and devise method to prevent or reduce these environmental impacts.

  • Protect from injury and ill health including the physical, mental or cognitive conditions.

  • Retain list of chemicals used and control them as per their material safety data sheet, legal, workers and client requirements. Also properly handle and manage hazardous materials and wastes.

  •  Implement, document, maintain and continually improve the Occupational Health and Safety Management System (ISO 45001:2018)

Job Requirements

COMPETENCIES: -

QUALIFICATIONS: -

  • BSc Degree in applied chemistry or chemical engineering

Experience: -

  • 2-4 years’ experience in soap and detergent industry
