Job Description

As one of the major actors in the Neglected Tropical Disease (NTD) elimination program in Ethiopia, Light for the World has been supporting NTDs activities in the Western Oromia and Tigray regions since 2005.Full  ‘SAFE’ program for Trachoma in Tigray and Mass Drug Administration (MDA) in Western Oromia has been implemented. Currently, through funding from USAID/RTI/ACT|EAST, mass drug administration for Trachoma and Onchocerciasis are being implemented in West Oromia and Tigray regions. As part of national and global NTDs elimination goal Light for the world continues its commitment for the elimination of NTDs in the targeted regions.

Role profile:

The post holder is reporting to program manager, closely working with field level project coordinators and Tigray regional coordinator. The main purpose of the role is, supporting the regional, zonal and district health offices in planning, implementation, and monitoring of the NTD project activity by ensuring project cycle management standards and procedures.

Develop relationships with other stakeholders at operational levels and take primary role in regular monitoring of the project implementation and technical support to the project partners in line with LIGHT FOR THE WORLD overall goals. Support the training of health workers and NTD focal persons at zonal and district levels for the effective implementation of the project. 

Key responsibilities

The project officer’s reasonability supporting zones and project districts including:

  • Collecting and compiling the monthly updates from the field team on the monthly project implementation status on or before the given deadlines.

  • Detailed project implementation planning, provide technical support and coordination the implementation with project districts/ zones, by ensuring project cycle management standards and procedures.

  • Coordinate MDA (Trachoma, Onchocerciasis and LF) activities and regular supportive supervision (monitoring of NTD project activities) to western Oromia and Tigray region.

  • Coordinate and facilitate MDA supply chain management, MDA logistics, Drugs and other supplies in collaboration with MOH and RHBs

  • She/He is responsible for supporting the zonal and district health offices in planning and management as well as integration of the NTD into the health care delivery system.

  • Ensures all HSS related activities are recorded and reported.

  • Develop relationships with other stakeholders at operational levels and take primary role in regular monitoring of the project implementation and technical support to the project partners in line with LIGHT FOR THE WORLD overall goals.

  • Assess reporting, implementation and coordination problems at the field level project including conflicts, interferences and overlap of control or roles and then recommend solutions to the project partners.

  • Communicate progress, risks, expectations, timelines, milestones and other key project related issues to the NTD program manager.

·       Internal promotion of work done by the NTDs team and program to contribute to improving community participation in program activities.

  • Perform additional related assignments as may be requested and instructed by the NTD program manager.

  • Facilitate and coordinate meetings, trainings lead by CO in collaboration with other Act|East team.

  • Attend meetings and training organized by partners and other likeminded organizations.

Job Requirements

·       Bsc in health-related discipline, Master’s in public health or related field will be an asset.

·       More than 4 years of experience for Masters and a minimum of six years’ experience for BSc, of these the three years’ of experience on NTD program -preferably on MDA coordination (Trachoma, Oncho and LF)

·       Previous experience in coordination of MDA or other community-based campaigns.

·       Experience in Managing Health programs Proven knowledge of government National health policy and standard operating Procedures.

·       Experience and knowledge on health system strengthening activities.

·       Proven communication and interpersonal skills.  

·       Knowledge of Operational Area Willingness to travel frequently in the country

·       Believe  and comtted  to light for the world -inclsuion policy.
