Job Description
Terms and conditions:
· One-year contract with possible extension based on performance and budget availability.
· Number Required: 2 (two)
· Duty station: Addis Ababa with traveling to the study sites
· Salary and benefits: as per AHRI contact scale
The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI, https://ahri.gov.et) is a public biomedical research and research-training institute under ministry of health. During its 52 years existence AHRI contributed to the improvement of the health and wellbeing of Ethiopians and created a critical mass of biomedical researchers. The Malaria and Neglected Tropical Diseases division in collaboration with the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and working in close collaboration with the MoH and regional health Bureaux responding on two major public health issues; the An. stephensi (CEASE project) and High Risk Population (HRP Project), implication for malaria elimination. We are looking for self-driven, motivated and energetic researchers to join our team.
Roles and Responsibilities:
· Receive, label and properly store samples
· Volunteer to engage in intensive hands on training in different PCR platforms
· Record all data and results in specific forms with accuracy and responsibility
· Maintain equipment and assist in ordering laboratory supplies
· Strictly ensure that all safety guidelines are followed at all times and maintain a clean orderly environment
· Execute other responsibilities coming from the Malaria Research Team
· Organize all reagents, consumables and supplies according to safety instructions
· Work closely with researchers, data management team and lab logistics officers
· Education: BSc Degree in Laboratory Sciences/Technology or biotechnology or biomedical sciences from a recognized institution
· Minimum GPA of 3.00 for male and 2.75 for female
· Skills and Competences in general medical or molecular laboratory
· Basic computer skills (MS word, excel, power point, etc)
· Self-driven, motivated and result oriented
· Ability to work independently and under pressure
· Excellent interpersonal communication
· Willing to support others and share workloads
· Flexible to work off-working hours or weekends and holidays as needed
· Applicants who have experiences on human and malaria vector sample processing for molecular and immunological techniques will be an asset and has advantages.
