It has been investing on Education, WASH, Livelihood, Emergency responses, Leadership and Opportunity Development Pillars in Ethiopia since 2008. Job Overview
As the Inclusive Education Specialist, you will play a vital role in ensuring that all children, including those with disabilities and special needs, have equal access to quality education. You will work closely with local partners, educators, and stakeholders to develop and implement inclusive education programs that cater to the diverse needs of students. Through your expertise and guidance, you will contribute to building inclusive learning environments that foster academic, social, and emotional development for every child.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Inclusive Education Program Development:
Collaborate with local partners and stakeholders to develop inclusive education programs aligned with the organization's mission and goals.
Conduct thorough assessments of existing education systems, policies, and practices to identify barriers to inclusion and recommend effective strategies for improvement.
Design and adapt curriculum materials, teaching methodologies, and resources to cater to the diverse learning needs of students.
Capacity Building and Training:
Provide training and professional development sessions to educators, school administrators, and community members on inclusive education practices.
Support the implementation of inclusive teaching strategies, classroom management techniques, and individualized education plans.
Build the capacity of local educators to create inclusive classrooms and foster a supportive learning environment for all students.
Collaboration and Partnership:
Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with local education authorities, community organizations, and relevant stakeholders to promote inclusive education.
Advocate for inclusive policies and practices within the education system, ensuring the rights of children with disabilities and special needs are upheld.
Collaborate with other teams within Imagine 1 Day International to integrate inclusive education principles into broader community development initiatives.
Monitoring and Evaluation:
Develop and implement monitoring and evaluation frameworks to assess the effectiveness and impact of inclusive education programs.
Collect and analyze data to measure student progress, identify areas for improvement, and inform evidence-based decision-making.
Prepare regular reports and contribute to knowledge sharing initiatives to highlight best practices and lessons learned in inclusive education.
Research and Innovation:
Stay informed about global trends, research, and innovations in inclusive education, and adapt best practices to local contexts.
Identify opportunities for piloting innovative approaches and interventions to further enhance inclusive education outcomes.
Contribute to the organization's knowledge base by documenting successful strategies, case studies, and research findings.
Master's degree in Education, Special Education, Inclusive Education, or a related field. A Ph.D. is a plus.
Minimum of 5 years of experience working in inclusive education, preferably in international development contexts.
In-depth knowledge of inclusive education principles, practices, and strategies.
Familiarity with disability rights, accessibility, and inclusive education policies at the national and international levels.
Proven experience in developing and implementing inclusive education programs and initiatives.
Strong training and facilitation skills, with the ability to effectively deliver workshops and build the capacity of others.
Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including local partners, government officials, and community members.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a results-oriented mindset.
Proficiency in data analysis and monitoring and evaluation methodologies.
Fluency in written and spoken English, and the local language.
