About the Team

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) Geneva leads NRC’s representation with the IASC and UN agencies, and coordinates donor engagement with the UN and Swiss donors. NRC strives to assist and protect vulnerable and displaced people during crises, especially in situations of conflict. Established in 1946, NRC is an independent, humanitarian, non-profit, non-governmental organisation working in around 31 countries with approximately 14’000 staff. NRC employs a rights based approach, challenging those with responsibility to uphold the rights of displaced people set out within national and International Laws. NRC endeavors to secure the acceptance of local stakeholders for activities and is committed to the principles of humanity, neutrality, independence and impartiality.

NRC seeks to engage with all relevant actors in order to promote the full respect for the rights of displaced and vulnerable people; secure and maintain access for humanitarian operations and promote the achievement of durable solutions. NRC Geneva, with the Internal Displacement Monitoring Center (IDMC), are NRC’s primary presence in Geneva. 

Role and responsibilities

Make the office and guesthouse gardens look clean and attractive and follow up on any maintenance required for the office and guesthouse.

Generic responsibilities 

• Maintain and grow the garden to ensure it meets specific requirements and expectations.

• Plant and nurture new trees, flowers, and various plants.

• Service all garden equipment and machinery.

• The availability of water in the dispenser changes with time.

• Lead the general services and property administration guidelines and procedures such as property admin, fuel and utilities management and maintenance, insurance, security, and cleaning

• Regularly inspect, repair, and replace all building sanitary components, mechanical plumbing lines, and fittings.

Specific responsibilities 

• Perform basic maintenance such as cutting the grass, emptying bins, managing weed control, and leaf raking.

• Work with hand tools and basic light machineries such as plant vehicles, and small diggers.

• Maintain a clean garden by clearing rubbish and litter from the garden and grounds.

• Does a variety of job-related duties as assign.

• Lead workspace arrangements for staff, configuring office and common areas, and organize furniture and other procurement, repairs and improvements as needed

• Ensure the proper management and regular maintenance of all office and guest house generator 

• (i.e., checking fuel in the GH and office, following up, and taking note of any office and guest house maintenance required.)

• Participate in any emergency repairs

• Fulfill any other related duties as may be requested.

• 2 years and above experience from working as a gardener and other additional duties, preferably in NGOs/INGOs.

• Has a basic gardener machineries knowledge,

• Has an electrical, plumbing, and furniture certificate (preferable)
