Job Summary:

As a Structural Engineer-Timber Design Specialist, you will play a crucial role in our design team, responsible for compiling a powerful Excel spreadsheet for structural analysis and design of timber structures. Your primary focus will be to create, maintain, and update an efficient, safe, and sustainable mass-timber design tool with your advanced skills in Excel spreadsheets and automate calculations, enhancing the efficiency and accuracy of the design processes.

Responsibilities:

• Create a comprehensive structural analysis and design calculator using an Excel spreadsheet for mass-timber building elements, including beams, floors, columns, walls, and connections.

• Collaborate with a software engineering team to plan and follow up on the quality of the software development process.

• Develop innovative and cost-effective timber design solutions while considering sustainability, structural integrity, and building codes and regulations.

• Prepare detailed engineering calculation reports, as required.

• Utilize your expertise in Excel spreadsheet compilation to create customized tools, automate calculations, and improve the overall efficiency of the design process.

• Stay updated with industry advancements, emerging technologies, and design trends related to timber structures and integrate them into project designs.

• Maintain accurate project documentation, including reports, correspondence, and design revisions.

Job Requirements

Qualifications: 

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering with more than 5 years of experience; Master's degree with more than 2 years of experience 

• Extensive experience (2+ years) in structural engineering, with a focus on building design.

• Expertise in Excel spreadsheet compilation, including developing complex formulas, macros, and automation.

• Proficient in the use of structural design software (e.g., RFEM, Tekla Teeds) and software like Mathcad.

• Solid understanding of relevant building codes and regulations, such as the Australian and New Zealand Standard (AS/NZS), Eurocode (EN), International Building Code (IBC), USA, and Canadian Standards.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to think creatively and develop innovative design solutions.

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively collaborate with team members, clients, and stakeholders.

• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and maintain high-quality standards.

• Experience in timber building design is preferred.

• Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and professional development in the fields of timber design and structural engineering.
