Job Description

Duty station:  Addis Ababa         

Duration and type of contract: Short Term (Jul 5-8, 2023: Four days)

Role and responsibilities

The data collector is responsible for households’ data collection via phone calls abiding to NRC’s protocols and displaying the required professional etiquette. S/he should be capable of gathering household data using digital tools. The applicant is expected to deliver quality data in daily basis to the designated NRC focal.   

 Generic Responsibilities

  • Adherence and compliance with NRC policies, CFM SoP and other standards

  • Take training about the PDM data collection processes and content

  • Play team role in the place s/he is assigned

  • Deliver high level of professional etiquette

  • Making routine phone calls to selected interviewees who were returned from Sudan and benefited with cash support of NRC

  • Comply to NRC’s core values

  • Ensure the quality of data with high level of accuracy and integrity  

Specific Responsibilities 

  • Introducing self and NRC for the respondents and telling the purpose of PDM

  • Getting consent with the respondents before interview

  • Asking and recording data such as name, sex, age, marital status, family size with sex and age category, location, etc.

  • Maintaining confidentiality when collecting sensitive information such as health status, criminal records, personal specifics, and the likes

  • Conducting interviews with respondents to collect information about their perspectives about the cash assistance made to them

  • Properly asking semi-structured interview questions and recording their responses

  • Ability to clearly communicate and hear during telephone calls

  • Receiving the required feedback from households at the end of each interview session

  • Thanksgiving for the respondents

Job Requirements

Competencies

  • BA/BSC in Economics, Statistics, Business Administration, Sociology, Linguistics (English), Rural development, and related fields

  • Experience in assessments and surveys as data collector

  • Previous experience of working in stressful environment

  • Has excellent knowledge of using tablets and/or smartphones

  • Experience of working with digital data collection apps like KoboCollect

  • Willingness to make phone calls to many beneficiaries’ households

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication, facilitation, and writing skills

  • knowledge of English language

  • knowledge of Amharic/Oromiffa and other locally spoken languages

Context/ Specific skills, knowledge, and experience:

  • Understanding of organizational requirements, standards, policies, and guidelines

  • Ability to work under pressure
