About Deborah Foundation

  • Established in 2019 Deborah Foundation is a registered non-profit organisation with a mission to improve the lives of children with Down Syndrome and other intellectual disabilities through support in the areas of health Education, and Policy Advocacy.

Summary

  • The foundation strives to create a lasting change within the Ethiopian community through increased advocacy, quality health services, inclusive education and building a strong policy infrastructure that is more inclusive for children and youth diagnosed with Down Syndrome in Ethiopia. 

  • The Foundation is currently engaging in capacity building activities, which are vital in ensuring the rights to life and education of people with intellectual disability. Training professionals in the area of health and education sector is one of the priorities of the capacity building strategy of The Foundation.

About the position

  • create a supportive learning environment which will help your students meet their learning goals. Through interesting and diverse methods, you'll teach them the important rules of reading, writing, and speaking in Afan Oromo

Responsibilities: 

  • Organize classroom lectures and coursework

  • Prepare materials and activities

  • Assign homework and interesting exercises

  • Identify students with special requirements and create individualized plans

  • Determine exam and assignment grades

  • Provide feedback based on workload and classroom behavior

  • Keep a record of students’ attendance and grades

  • Research new language teaching methods

  • Manage classroom crises and resolve conflict

  • Inform parents about their children’s performance

  • Collaborate with teaching staff and administrators to foster a good student experience

Job Requirements

Qualifications and experience

Essential

  • BSc/BA in Afan Oromo or Afan Oromo Literature

  • Knowledge of various teaching methods

  • Deep understanding of the national curriculum and Amharic language requirements

  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills

  • A patient and resilient personality

  • Dedication to students and education

Desirable

  • Back ground with special education. 

  • Family member with special needs

Personal attributes

Essential

  • Team player.

  • Ability to work independently, displaying strong initiative in solving day-to-day problems with limited direction.

  • Detail oriented, with ability to manage, track and organise data.

  • Strong ability to take initiative and work with minimum supervision.
