Job Purpose

The Communications Officer is responsible for supporting the implementation of communications policy, strategy, and guidelines of IR Ethiopia and IRW in general. Accordingly, he/she will support IRE'S communications and advocacy activities; assists with branding and marketing of IRE; provide inputs for publications: design, printing, and final editing; assists in event preparations. In collaboration with the  communications coordinator , he/she documents lessons learned from various programmes and uses them for IRE image building.  He/she assists in updating IRE's website and social media  platforms, documentation of events, trainings , field supervision , best practices and lessons learned through audio-visual means, production and dissemination.

Duties and responsibilities

·       Assisting the communications activities of the organization, under the direction of the  Communications coordinator. 

·       Travel to the IR’s operational areas and project sites to develop, produce  and maintain project information, success stories, case studies, videos, and other communications materials.

·       Consult with the  communications coordinator , the program implementing staff within the country office, donors, and IRW on the pre-production, production, and post-production process of documentary films, video stories, and camera pieces.

·       Designing and executing information/marketing/advocacy campaigns using multi-faceted (multilingual, multimedia) digital and traditional formats. This task includes developing content for blogs, articles, social media, and websites of Islamic Relief.

·       Extending support for events through photography, social media, web updates, and talking points.

·       Maintain archives of communications and media products and clippings.

·       Undertakes any other duties and tasks appropriate to the post as may be required from time to time by the Communications Coordinator.

Job Requirements

Personal Specification

Formal Education/Qualification and Work Experience

·       Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Journalism and mass communication, film studies, cinematography, digital and multi-media, including videography and video editing, or related field and a minimum of  3 years of experience working in digital and multi-media.

Skills and Competences

·       Training and skills in graphics design software including Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe Illustrator

·       Training and proficiency with photography and video camera

·       Must have experience and provide a strong portfolio of videography graphics design works

·       Solid experience with digital technology and editing software packages (e.g.Adobe Premiere, After Effects, and Final Cut)

·       Prior successful work experience in social media and digital media content production, videography, case study, and story writing.

·       Ability to function in and adapt appropriately to a fast-moving, cross-unit team environment.

·       Excellent communication skills, including social media and multimedia skills, plus strong
interpersonal skills

·       Strong knowledge and understanding of current trends in digital media/social media

·       Excellent command of English, (written, oral, comprehension) including highly developed
drafting skills. Fluency in the main language(s) of the country and duty station in question is highly
desirable

·       Ability to travel up to 40 % domestically to the Islamic Relief Ethiopia operational areas to develop professional communication, branding, and visibility materials.

·       Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.

·       Good time management and organizational skills.

·       Proficient in Microsoft Office, content management systems, and social media platforms.

·       Ability to manage a complex and demanding workload with flexible behavior

·       Sympathy with the aims and objectives of IR

·       Commitment to humanitarian principles and action
