CARITAS Switzerland (CACH) has been working in Ethiopia for more than 45 years. Currently CACH cooperates with four partners in Ethiopia. CACH has successfully been registered as an International Non-Government Organization in Ethiopia and has therefore become operational at project implementation level. CACH’s main working fields are Climate, Income, Migration as well as Humanitarian Aid Responses. CACH current working areas are in Oromia, SNNPR and Tigray. CACH supports and implements currently about ten projects in these regions. CACH supports and implements different projects in these regions.

Summary of Duties

The Project Manager (PM) is reporting to her/his supervisors in Negelle Field Office and Addis Ababa Country Office. The jobholder will be the reference and the representative of the project. The PM will be responsible for driving performance and results to achieve objectives. The PM will support the team to deliver timely project implementation, monitor project activities, and ensure quality in line with the policies, processes, and strategies of CACH. The PM constantly monitors the context of the project area to propose adaptations in the project, propose new interventions, and react to emergencies. The PM monitors and support the partner organizations in the activity implementation. The PM must be ready to undertake frequent field trips to project sites.

Main Areas of Responsibility

Project Coordination/Management, Implementation and Reporting

  • Management, implementation, supervision, and monitoring of a multi sectorial humanitarian emergency response project activities with focus on WASH and Cash Voucher Assistance.

  • Plan the activities on a weekly basis. Supervise their implementation daily, assuring the quality of the work. Coach the team under his responsibility when needed.

  • Prepare realistic and participatory detail implementation plan (DIP) adequately broken down into annual, quarterly, monthly, and bi-weekly plans.

  • Coordinate the project activities at field level with the project’s co-implementing partner organizations working on Agriculture and Protection. Lead coordinated planning process of the project with the project managers of co-implementing partners.

  • Coordinate activities with other humanitarian organizations and local authorities including internal reporting and assessments.

  • Provide technical input to Field Office and Country Office during project/programme formulation, proposal preparation and report writing.

  • Follow-up the budget expenditure of the project in line with internal procedures and in compliance with donor rules and regulations.

Job Requirements

About you

The ideal candidate represents the majority of the below mentioned areas:

  • Master’s degree in Project Management, Agriculture, Agricultural Economics, Rural Development, Business Management, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or similar field of study.

  • At least 5 years of relevant work experience in emergency and humanitarian aid response.

  • At least 2 years in managerial position with responsibility for the project implementation and resource management. Experience in managing UN EHF funded projects is considered an asset.

  • Experience in managing and leading consortium projects of accompanying partner-managed projects.

  • Ability to represent the organization in negotiation, coordination and leading a process that involves various actors at a local level and to act as a part of a multi-cultural and multidisciplinary team.

  • Experience in implementing community-based projects; ability to liaise activities with various actors, with different interest and in different places.

  • Full command of the local working language and good oral and written English skills are mandatory.

  • Experience in project cycle management (annual action plan and definition of the strategy, activities, proposal writing, logical framework, work plan, implementation, reporting, monitoring and evaluation, etc.

  • Assessment, analytical and planning skills.

  • Diplomacy, tact and negotiating skills.
