Ripple Effect (RE) is registered and licensed Foreign Charity. RE Ethiopia was established in March 2006 and works to see a rural Ethiopia that is confident, thriving, and sustainable, with a growing economy and higher living standards for all. RE focuses on three thematic areas; Farm Systems, Gender and Social Inclusion and Enterprise Development to help to combat poverty and works to create a rejuvenated and abundant African environment for both current and future generations.
We are recruiting an Improved Animal Management Officer for Ripple Effect (RE) projects planned to be implemented in Wolaita Zone. For this vacant position we will consider applicants who have BSc in Animal science, Animal Husbandry, Animal Breeding, Animal Production & Rangeland Management or any animal related fields Five (5) years of relevant work experience in the area of animal welfare and management particularly on equine welfare. Experience of project monitoring at field level and quality report writing; Experience of project monitoring and reviewing; Prior experience with NGOs working in the area agricultural extension, community development and other food security related issues with smallholder farmers; Project management in the areas equine welfare & management; Skills in project planning, budgeting and monitoring; Ability of planning, organizing and conducting trainings and workshops at various levels (farmers, staff, stakeholders); Ability to coordinate project activities with a result based approach; Ability to use self-initiatives and work with minimal supervision; Very good skill in organizing activity schedules with ability to prioritize; High level of interpersonal skills with the ability to work across cultures and religions; Ability to be innovative and generate new ideas.

1. Purpose of the job
The main purpose of the job is to improve the capacity of smallholder farmers, farmer groups (SHGs, CLAs etc.) and the agricultural extension system in their effort of improving the welfare and management of livestock in general and equines in particular and consequently support the improvement in the livelihood situation of smallholder farmers in the assigned districts.
2. Key Responsibilities
2.1. Coordinate the overall implementation of the project including the administration of project budget and project activity delivery.
2.2. Ensure smallholder farmers, Peer farmer Trainers (PFTs), Development Extension Agents etc. are properly trained on Improved Animal Welfare & Management techniques with particular emphasis on equines.
2.3. Work with farmers, community-based organizations, influential leaders, and the local government at kebele and district level to improve the welfare of equines in the area.
2.4. In consultation with other Ripple Effect staff, prepare context-specific training and other educational materials.
2.5. Facilitate the transfer of knowledge, skills and experiences particularly on equine welfare and management among RE staff, project targeted farmers and other community members in the assigned districts.
2.6. Ensure the integration of IAM related activities are properly integrated with other activities like crop production and natural resource management activities
2.7. In consultation with the line manager and functional manager, prepare monthly and weekly work plans & budgets and act accordingly.
2.8. Prepare and share periodic progress reports of the project
2.9. Undertake regular monitoring and periodical evaluation of project activities and provide technical support based on identified gaps
2.10. Periodically collect, analyze & document project related data and share as success stories, case studies and lessons learned;
2.11. Work closely with other RE staff based in Wolaita field office in planning, implementing and monitoring of projects
2.12. Liaise with district and kebele level government offices and implementing partners operating in the assigned districts
2.13. Any other duties as assigned by the line coordinator based in Wolaita, thematic manager and project focal person based in Addis Ababa
BSc in Animal science, Animal Husbandry, Animal Breeding, Animal Production & Rangeland Management or any animal related fields
Five (5) years years of relevant work experience in the area of animal welfare and management particularly on equine welfare
